just wondering. I think you've posted them in prior years, though perhaps I'm confusing that with your predictions on how SE guys will do at States.

Yes, in previous years I posted how the SE guys will do at states - although I didn't do this last year and won't this year. I'll probably start up again next year.

much appreciated, Dice. I was hoping to make it to the AAA Regional finals, but that's looking pretty unlikely.

Thanks, dice....enjoy following PIAA wrestling at this time of year, even after living in NC

Don't follow this as closely as some do; I recognize the names Matt Parker and Zach Trampe, not many others...
Who from the SE region would seem to have a good chance of winning the final prize in Hershey?

At 220 I would put money on the Doyle-Kennerly finals match being rerun the next week in Hershey. Maybe Duggan has a chance to crash the party, but I wouldn't count on it. Kennerly is explosive and Doyle is as strong as a house.

Besides Parker and Zack, I don't see anyone else from D1 being capable of bringing home a title - honestly, probably not even anyone else making the finals. At 106, Lucerne/Zapf/Mendez are all medal worthy, but not in a class with a guy like Cerniglia. 160 Stillings is going to have either Hong or Hartmann on his side and Hidlay is also in that class. I know Stillings beat Hartmann at ETR, but did not look like he would win the rematch to me. Beyond that most of our regional champs will not be locks for medals - maybe Cronin, but he can throw a clunker at times. Jake Campbell and Marino are medal-worthy but 126 is probably the deepest class state wide - we'll get some, but they won't be easy. Not a particularly great year for D1.

Predictions for this weekends SE AAA. Top 5 go to states:

195: 3. Hunter Catka

I've got my eye on him. It's not that often that a freshman has as much success as he has had in an upper weight. I've seen him wrestle a few times, and he's quite good.

Cronin (138 -- UD) has looked great the few times I've seen him this year. Trampe (132 - CRS) I only saw 1 time, and he looked great. Marino (126 - GV) I've seen a few times, and he's looked very good.

Should be some great competition.

Yes, he is good for a freshman. Out on a limb a bit there with my prediction as he took 3rd in his district, but I have him reversing a 7-6 defeat this week in the consolations. Beyond Zapf and Duliakis at 195, there are about a half dozen kids that could knock each other off in that weight class.

What's happened to good old Quakertown? My dads school & a school I played against & wrestled against. They always used to have 3/4 studs on there team back in the day? Of course that's the 80's & I'm showing my age ;(

They are down and it doesn't help that they lost the Frinzi's to BECA and Aidan Burke to CR North.

You have to put on your big boy pants next week, but sure looks like D7/D11 will take home the high dollar hardware again this year in AAA

D1 should do better than D3 on paper ...

the rest of districts will have the usual amount of stragglers taking home hardware

BUT, I love going to Hershey every year --- great company, great lunches at the Boro, and great wrestling!

Brandon Meredith is Bud's grandson, right?

That is correct. Brandon's grandfather is Bud.

Max Livingston is the younger brother of Caleb.

I've coached about half of these kids, including Brandon, Max and Katka, and can provide any information you want.

FYI. Chase Stephens and Ryan Resnick will be teammates in college at Tenn-Chattanooga, where my former Foxcatcher/Renegade teammate, David Hoffman, is the HC.

Foxcatcher? There must be a few stories from those days?

Foxcatcher? There must be a few stories from those days?

How about I was coached by Dave Schultz on the Tuesday before he was shot and killed. I was 12yrs old. I'm also one of the last wrestlers to train at the Foxcatcher facility on DuPont's estate. This was after it was shut down and only open to two people who testified for DuPont, one of them being my coach who trained me for PSU.

How's that for a story?

that's powerful stuff for anyone to go through something like that, and esp. a 12-year old

God bless.

Is D3 AAA the only district not wrestling in regionals this weekend? Is this scheduling an issue?
Scheduling is not an issue. South Central AAA Regionals is always during Districts weekend, because D3 is the only district in the regional. Must be nice to have that extra week to recover before states that your competitors don't have ...

Yeah, I realize that D3 is the only district in that region, though the AA setup is different. What I was wondering is whether there was much griping about the arrangement that seems to give the D3 AAA guys a bit of an advantage in preparation for States? Or enough griping to make any changes?

Of course everyone outside of that region has a gripe with the current scheduling. Enough griping for it to change? Don't think so, it has been that way for a while now. I can't recall the last time D3 had their region held the week before states like the other 4.
