Pa power just released the regionals rankings. I said it before. They must all be catholic. They really like the private schools.

The NE AA will be a fun regional to watch play out. This like usual is the toughest AA regional. Benton will be stronger in the middle.
Kolb top spot at 107, Matt Almedina is a sleeper at 121, Harer and Wentzel at 127 (The young stud wins), Granahan gets the top spot at 133, 139 has two hammers but one will probably move Pepe & Johnson, then add in Heckman, Kolb & barvitske. That is the deepest weight.
Little Milheim could make some noise. 145 is tough with Evanitsky, Milheim and Chase. Little Wentzel could be strong there. Harer, Wirnsberger and Oldest Milheim at 152. Harer is a cut above. We could see one bump to 160 with that weight light.
Ayden smith and Seidel at 107 could be interesting. They have to both be big. The SE is a Faith vs NDGP show down. I feel bad for home grown Saucon Valley,, they are top 2-3 public school for sure. Bouzakis pushes stein out of the top spot. Doesn’t Steins bother go to a different school but aaa. 172 Garcia vs Waters.

Northwest
Clearfield could do well. No idea why Louie Gill is in the rankings. PIAA removed him for a reason. Reynolds is back. Got some good guys coming in and opened up some multi million dollar complex. AA states needs Reynolds.

Southwest
This is the weakest SW is recent years. No clue why mccort is in the rankings. They look out of sorts. Forrest tf’ing college kids, Bassett and Gibson winning super 32 & then wrestling AA doesn’t make sense to me. Heard over Thanksgiving they are doing the Kasak/Haines thing & not wrestling PIAA again. That is a slap in the PIAA face in my opinion. The Wpial is definitely down AA wise. Burgettstown is the best home grown team in the SW.

I made the trip out to the CV classic to watch the Harer boys. Oh good lord is Faith Academy the real deal. If you thought the old Becca and NDGP teams were loaded. Wait and see. They have finalist in almost every weight at a really tough event. Both Harer’s are in the finals

Talks about the big guns in D4. This break down shows District 5 is still a hotbed.

Wentzel (PSU Bound)
Nasedo (PSU Bound)
Weiss
Johnson
Oldest Milheim
Barvistkie
Heckman
Wirnsberger
Harer
Barnes
Austin Johnson
Ulrich

I see David Kennedy breaking out this year and the four super freshmen will all be top Pa in their careers. (Harer, Milheim, Wentzel and Wirnsberger) the baby brothers all have chances to be better than their older brothers which will be hard but possible.

Team race- I see Benton pulling it out over Warrior Run, The tigers with Granahan, Kolb brothers and Burke as the group. I heard for years about what Warrior run is building and kids moving there. Well now could be their time. Montoursville and Montgomery will also be tough. Harer always has some tricks up his sleeve.

Question.
145 pound, 6th ranked Clearfield's Brady Collins. Is that Scott's kid?

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t believe it is. The kid is tough like Scott

PIAA lost their minds

Just when we thought HS sports was at a crazy stage. This gets entered.
It's not so bad... 22nd to do it, so clearly following, not leading. Some of the explicit exclusions are what seem crazy to me. HS Verk wouldn't be able to represent diabetes medicines. Why can't a kid sell the Hornaday ammo he uses to rid his family cow pastures of ground hogs?

Shikellamy 36 over State College 35
Though Shikellamy only won 6 of 13 bouts, they were all by fall.
Back in the day like 80s and 90s shik was THE powerhouse every year it seemed. Then you throw in the little school Line Mountain right next door and you had a hell of a meet line mountain had a kid Max Shingara at lighter weight maybe 140 at the time and he was stacked. Swear to God this kid looked bigger than 165 pounders. Great wrestling traditions.

Q appears to be doing well! Five ranked individuals!

Chase Burke took out Julian Everitt (State 6th, AAA ) in the Benton Pittston dual tonight. That is a solid win up at 145.

Mike Shingara was even bigger than Max

Mike was a beast, surprised he didn’t have a college resume to match his HS results.

Also surprised State College can’t get their program going at an elite level. I mean what else do you need - 2,300+ enrollment, live in the wrestling capital of the United States. They have a good group coming up in MS but they have all the tools to dominate year in/year out

To me, the trajectory is right—but the mid-term tradition isn’t comparable to the consistently elite schools. The youth program in town is definitely on the rise though. Participation has grown tremendously on that level. And we’re consistently getting state placers—been a long while since that happened. Saint Joe’s being down the street probably doesn’t help, and I suspect we may regress a bit after the Cunningham boys & Manville move on. But I think long-term, the prospects are good.

Each point is correct except the St Joe's part: They have nothing to do with anything that effects State high. Way too small and they don't recruit anybody that can be a difference maker at the AAA level.

With the right people, this could be the next Stillwater setup where psu early commits come there early to St college High and train at NLWC

Not to mention bellefonte and central mountain right next door. It's a hotbed for young wrestlers for sure. Lock haven always has kids running around in singlets that aren't out of diapers yet. Unlike Iowa, who has adults in diapers running around in singlets lol. Just kidding

Big time wrestling match in AA

#26 Clearfield 45
#6 Brookville 27
Saw that. Clearfield finally has the team they have been building toward...not in the super power group like McCort, but one of the better legit non recruiting schools

This is also first year (ever?) that Clearfield is AA and not AAA.
I expect these 2 teams to possibly meet again in the District 9 Dual Championships in February. Don't be too surprised if the outcome then is different ;)

NO PRIVATE SCHOOLS!!!!
The tournament director made a stand years ago and said he would not allow them in. What a breath of fresh air. The PIAA needs to hire this guy

He doesn’t care about having some of the best kids in the country wrestling in his tourney. That’s cool I guess…

Strange take. Makes sense for post season but during the season it would seem like you would want the best kids attending your tournament.

I heard he really didn’t like the whole St Joe’s flash in the pan thing they had going. They tried to get in and he basically told them “we aren’t accepting any all star teams”

It's kind of like a non-take. Most years KOM is the same weekend as the Beast, which is attended by all the major prep/Catholics in eastern PA and it also has been the opening weekend tourney of choice for the NJ Catholics and Blair for as long as I remember.

Our school has been attending KOM for a very long time - until this year, we are switching it up for a year or two - and this has been the case as long as I can remember.

It's kind of like me making a statement that I'm making a stand and no longer dating supermodels. No disrespect to KOM intended, it's a great tournament.

I don't think it's as much about keeping preps out as it is about preps not being interested as mentioned above there are other tournaments going on at the same time. If I'm not mistaken there were some Catholic schools from Ohio who used to attend like St Edward's but I may be confusing with another tournament
