That is not a "walk" I would take after the night sessions. Daytime yes. As you are staying by Pitt and CMU, there is a lot of alternative transportation.

The PSUWC will almost certainly have a shuttle bus from the hotel(s) they have blocks of rooms in, 2 of which are near Pitt.

Do not attempt to walk this. When you get into your hotel, you are fine. Good location for restaurants, bars, things happening.

You will walk through some of the worst parts of Pittsburgh on your way. I would Uber without question.

For anyone else looking to stay in Pittsburgh, I recommend staying in downtown, Station Square or Southside.

Stay in one of the hotels in Greentree.

Just the other side of the Fort Pitt Tunnel
Take an Uber back & forth. 10-15 min Uber.

You’ll save at least 1/3 of that price.

I just checked the DoubleTree in GreenTree: very nice place
$144/night for Wed thru Sun, before taxes

———

If anyone wants under $100 night, try Robinson Twp / Moon Twp and deal w the Parkway West

———

There’s also a Hampton Inn out on McKnight Road. $110/night. Parkway North drives fast (I-279 N). Straight shot downtown. Rarely a traffic issue.

So I booked an Airbnb for next weekends football game vs. Pitt. I am staying in Duquesne Heights. Am I safe?? I will take either Uber or public transit to the stadium. Thanks in advance.

I had to look up where Duqusne Heights was located. If you dont live there, we just call it Mount Washington and lump those communities together. Not fair lumping those proud communities. I would stay there, a former coworker lives there. Depending where you are, there can be a lot of modest houses that housed the steel workers in the 40s and 50s.

Make sure you stop on Grandview Ave for the view and also drive through Chatham Village, a garden community that was developed in the 1930 to takle housing density issues. It is beautiful and on many historical lists.

My take is Yinz should be safe, but can others please chime in and confirm. But as always, you are in a city and must be aware. Of course I did watch In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.

You should be fine there Pointing Dogs. Plan some time to take in the views of the city from the overlooks on Grandview avenue. Consider taking a ride on the Duquesne Incline as well.

You are close to a pretty good selection of restaurants with some of them offering a great view of the city as well.

On game day, I'm not sure how easy it is to take an Uber directly to the stadium. You might want to consider an Uber to Station Square (another great place for restaurants) and ride one of the river boat shuttles to and from the game. You could also have the Uber driver take you to Gateway Center or "The Point" of Downtown and walk across the bridge to the stadium.

Enjoy your visit.

Pittsburgh is a relatively safe town, just ask our 200 pound  165 lb guy who hails from here and his family works hard to keep it that way.

Can't wait for March!

Agree with all of this. If you have to tell a cab or someone else, call it Mount Washington. It’s a tourist trap up on Grandvjew. If you like great views, fancy dinners pick any a restaurant up there.

Pointingdogs, I don't know if you are a baseball fan but the Pirates play the Marlins Saturday afternoon. PNC Park and Heinz field are right next to each other and share the same parking lots. As a result getting close to Heinz field via Uber will be especially f**** on Saturday.

Whether you are a baseball fan or not, I recommend going to the Pirate game if for no other reason than to watch a game at PNC Park. There is really not a bad seat in the park and if you go try and get seats between the dugouts at any level of the stadium.

Nearly every year, PNC Park is rated by several magazines as the best ballpark anywhere to watch a game. The views of the city are great and by itself is worth making the trip. Between games there are plenty of bars and restaurants close by and Rivers Casino is on the other side of Heinz Field and is an easy walk.

Question about Pittsburgh area. A group of us are travelling over for nationals in march. We have a house in Dormont. Is it good travel from there to event? What's area like for nightlife and food?

Cain’s in Dormont has amazing bar food. It’s really a level higher than “bar food”

Breakfast in Dormont?
“The Dor-Stop” is phenomenal.

Digger,

From Dormont, could they easily get to the "T" and use the light rail to the US Steel station and walk to the Arena? I'm not sure as I'm north.

Dormont is fine. You are just on the other side of the tunnels. Easy uber ride over. Nightlife isn't in Dormont, but there are some relatively close bars in Dormont and Mount Lebanon that will be fine. I'd recommend a place in Mtl called the Saloon. If you are trying to get the scene, you'll want to head to the Southside on Carson Street. You also have the "T" in Dormont which is the trolley into the city for a way in too. Would drop you off at the US Steel/UPMC building and is a quick walk up the hill. Takes a little to figure out between Red/Blue Lines, but if you feel comfortable with all that it will get you to and from.
