Hoagies in Raleigh

HR is actually being very gentlemen like so far. Kudos to them and congrats to Trent.
Yup, they are. A couple of guys over there like to hammer Morningstar when recruits don't commit. Does Iowa put that much of the recruiting responsibility on him? I really don't know.

Wait until Rutgers beats them in their dual on Dec. 8. Even without Ashnault in the lineup, this is very possible.

I have heard it from several people unrelated to the situations where I heard them say M* is doing a great job and is hard worker.

They just had the #1 class last year. Which I think is like the 2nd or 3rd time they have had that ranking in the last decade.

Oh boy, it's probably getting ugly over at HR. Not even gonna bother to read it. Never mind, I'm gonna go check it out.
I may have spoke too soon. It is just starting to turn into the other guys must be cheating... again. Lol. At least I'm in for a little humor on this cold Monday evening.:)

Wasn't their #1 class last year because of Strittmatter? ;)

I wonder if his brother is still transferring to Iowa?

That was one of the funnier ones I have ever seen there. I think that is a keeper in subsequent recruiting cycles.

Im thinking a few still think Teaz is switching back.

PS- someone send hoagie a giftcard to Smiths Sub Shop for bagging it at S32. This ensured that a full nuclear meltdown didnt happen at the HR. Had he walked to a title, that place would be on suicide watch.

Tell Gwiz that.
So in moments like this it seems nobody willing admit when they are wrong. I promise right now to own it if I'm wrong and this kid makes the the top three. If I'm right I won't be happy because I never like to see someone fail who doesn't wrestle for Iowa or Ohio State but I promise to say I told you so.

Hell, back in the day Nolf was going to Iowa City until his parents said no. That is if you read HR. Maybe if there had been a college administrative job available somewhere.

“I’ve heard Wittlake wants to be a Hawk - loves Carver and Iowa Style! We are showing interest”

That was a short-lived thing - way to show late interest in a multiple Fargo champ and world team member. I’m beginning to think Jay Pa is somehow involved in their recruiting outreach

I think this is a real thing. I think Iowa and other teams walk into the game very late continuously. Whereas our staff is checking out kids very early. Whether it be tape, networking, tournament visits, camps, etc I think tO$U and our staff do more in the earlier years of recruitment than other staffs.

By coming in at the end they have to work twice as hard as others. Which is kind of the iowa mantra, but goes against the PSU mantra. We work on things (nico move in finals against gman, bo against Dean, etc) ie play wrestling through positions before they are needed, prepare for a moment that may never come. But if it does you are prepared. This can be applied to recruiting. talk to the kids in JH, in freshman year, not about schollies but about success, about life, about doing things the right way, about technique, about style.

Its time you dont get back, but I think it helps the brand and certainly can be parlayed with the show on the mat and the trophy ceremony. Then we have great ambassadors for the college game. what bright eyed JH kid doesnt look up to Zain or Nolf, DT or Bo. They do things that very few can, but can relate to kids in ways that others dont.

Spencer Lee will be able to do this in the future but it will take a few years and who is his wing man. Right now I dont know. We and tO$U have kids that are bigger than life in the eyes of recruits, iowa doesnt. Until Spencer gets there (which might be at the expense of gman), I expect us to continue to land the guys we want instead of guys we need. the other programs are fighting for guys they need.

This reminds me of watching the youth program. Saturday is sucker Saturday. The kids practice for 30 minutes then get paired up and wrestle a match. Afterwards each kid gets a sucker.
Look across the room and there is Nico and DT, Zain, Jason, Cutch and Nick. The guys who are the stars are right there interacting with the kids. The guys do this then afterwards they have their own practice. The entire program is always participating and interacting.

I believe you are spot on. The staff and team members seem to always be participating and interacting with anybody and everybody. Wherever they are, the people (staff and athletes) in this program almost certainly leave a strong and lasting impression that is very favorable.

It feels extremely win win in that our top tier guys are given chances the coach kids and exercise real authority while carrying real responsibility. This is awesome personal development and world class recruiting at the same time. Go Cael!

Yeah what a bunch of idiots. How dare Hawkeye fans be optimistic about their team.. They act like they even have a chance to win a recruitin battle. Hell they act like they don’t know ISU is the best team in the state and will be beating them soon. SAD

I do think there is some merit to this as the Brands don't strike me as being all that comfortable with today's recruiting in their interviews. And our guys are seriously great recruiters.

But most of this is an oversimplification. A list of the superstar wrestlers as the current crop of HS wrestlers have been coming up, these may not be listed on accomplishments, but more on their visibility to kids:

Burroughs - Nebraska
Snyder - tOSU
DT - PSU
Zain - PSU
Nolf - PSU
Dake - Cornell
Ruth - PSU
Stieber - tOSU
Nickal - PSU
Metcalf - Iowa

5 guys from PSU, a couple guys from tOSU, a guy from Cornell, Nebraska and Iowa, with Metcalf being the farthest removed from current popularity. I have Nickal and Nolf up there, not so much on their accomplishments, but their style and popularity make them superstars. I probably missed somebody above, but just going off the top of my head.

Beyond this you have guys like Dean and the like, but not many kids out there going gaga over Gabe Dean.

PSU is killing it in recruiting now. tOSU doing 2nd best. It probably has a lot to do with the above list. Iowa has a lot riding on Spencer becoming a superstar.

See. The picture is getting clearer and it is all coming together for you. You have to be feeling better about things now.
