Honestly, I'm shocked ASWP hasn't attempted to hire Cary Kolat.

Cary has made some real nice progress at Campbell University in NC. Kolat has the type of name recognition in Pennsylvania wrestling that would translate instantaneously to recruiting. Really somewhat surprised that ASWP has not tried to bring Kolat home to Pennsylvania, but after reading how new ASWP AD Lykes has handled this thing since arriving......I guess I'm a lot less surprised as to why the obvious choices are being missed.

Another that I am surprised has not been really mentioned is Jody Strittmatter (believe he is still HC at Pitt-Johnstown) - especially given the fact that he co-founded Young Guns Wrestling Club in early 2000s, which is located in Allegheny County I believe.

Stritmatter is an assistant. Pecora is the HC at UPJ.

Got it.... Given his connection to Young Guns, he's a name (along with Kolat) that I would have thought we'd heard regarding the ASWP opening (I mean the ASWP job has been open since January! Apparently there was some type of incident that happened at Midlands involving Peters). You would have thought the hiring of the New AD would have brought clarity to this thing, but in typical ASWP fashion, it has merely turned it into more of a complete cluster-f.

Not being familiar with what ASWP is, I've got to ask. Do people pronounce it "ass wipe" ?

Those initials remind me of the almost-name, Antonin Scalia School Of Law (ASSOL).

The day after Pitt fired Peters, Strittmatter announced he was not interested in the Pitt HC position.

That's been discussed enough on this forum that it should be common knowledge by now.

As for Kolat, who knows what he thinks of Pitt. But Campbell is in the midst of a major wrestling facilities upgrade. Maybe Kolat wants to stay and build that program.

Kolat has stated that he's committed to Campbell, isn't interested in the Pitt gig from what I can tell.

The fact that ASWP can't get interest from top names given their location and position in a P5 Conference is telling as to how their long-term commitment is being viewed. Coaches, especially names with a "brand" in Pennsylvania, should be salivating over this opportunity, but they're not......telling imho.

UPJ's head coach is legendary Pat Pecora. Young Guns home base is in Ebensburg, Cambria County. Otherwise, your post is accurate.

Pitt isn't going to bring a big name to coach there until they actually commit to the wrestling program. They need to be fully funded and invest in new facilities. If they do that and are willing to pay someone the kind of money you get at other schools they'll be able to get a big name like Kolat.

Until they make an honest commitment to that program those guys aren't going to consider Pitt.
