As most of you probably know by now, the recruiting dead period enforced by the NCAA since March 2020 is coming to an end tomorrow, so here's a little bit of a primer for what the hoops program has lined up to get things started.
Micah Shrewsberry and his staff are anticipating a busy summer, and that begins right off the bat. We're expecting three prospects to visit Penn State this week — one unofficial visit and two official visits. I know the Lions Den has had a few bits of news about visitors over the last few days from some of our national guys, but these are the prospects set to visit this week.
Otega Oweh
One of Penn State's top targets is taking an unofficial visit right as the window opens on June 1, so one of the first prospects hosted by Shrewsberry and his staff will be an important one. Oweh has offers from several Big East schools as well as Virginia Tech, Miami, Nebraska and Minnesota. Obviously, he's got a Penn State connection because the Nittany Lion football program just sent his older brother, Odafe (Jayson), to the NFL Draft. He's not big on speaking with the media so unfortunately I don't know much more than that at the moment, but hopefully we can get a better picture for where things stand with him after the visit.
AJ Brown
AJ Brown is taking an official visit beginning on Tuesday as well. He told me this weekend that this is the only official visit he has scheduled for the summer as of right now, although he would like to see more schools. So we'll see what happens with him. He holds offers from Alabama, Temple, South Florida, Iona as well as Yale. I'll have a story with him previewing his visit later today.
Kanye Clary
Clary is the third visitor planned for the week, and his visit will be official. He announced an offer from Texas A&M that stood as his lone power conference offer for almost a year until Penn State offered in April. His other offers are from Hampton, Old Dominion, James Madison and Norfolk State.
