Hoops: TV/Tip times announced for 2018-19 schedule

ROSEMONT, Ill. – A Sunday afternoon home game on CBS is just one of the highlights of the national television schedule for the Penn State men’s basketball team as the Big Ten Conference announced game times and broadcast information today (Sept. 6) for the 2018-19 season.

Four Big Ten weekend games at the Bryce Jordan Center will be featured on CBS, Big Ten Network and FS1 and the Nittany Lions will appear on BTN, the ESPN family of networks and FS1 throughout the season. At least 27 Nittany Lion games will be televised in 2018-19, with some TV designations to be announced.

When applicable, games will also be available on BTN Plus, BTN2Go and the WatchESPN digital platforms. Penn State’s 2018-19 schedule and available times and broadcast information is available atGoPSUSports.com. All times listed are Eastern Time.

The first opportunity for Penn State fans to see their Nittany Lions in action will be Saturday, Nov. 3 exhibition vs. Nyack College at the Bryce Jordan Center at 1 p.m. BTN Plus will offer coverage of the preseason game vs. the Warriors.

Two confirmed regular-season contests will be available on BTN Plus as the Friday, Nov. 9 season opener vs. North Florida will tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET on the digital network. A 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 game vs. Jacksonville State on BTN closes out the first weekend of competition.

DePaul and Penn State square off in the 2018 edition of the Gavitt Games at Chicago’s WinTrust Arena on Thursday, Nov. 15.Television coverage of this meeting will be provided by either FS1 or BTN.

After their two-game trip to the Cancun Challenge, the Nittany Lions return to University Park for their Big Ten/ACC Challenge game vs. Virginia Tech. The two teams will tangle at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 with the broadcast carried by either ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Penn State’s Big Ten season opener and home opener, on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Maryland and Tuesday, Dec. 4 vs. Indiana will both be available on BTN. The Nittany Lions and Terps are scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip off time. The Tuesday night game vs. the Hoosiers will start at 7 p.m., the first of 10 Big Ten home games as part of the league’s new 20-game format.

UMBC will visit the Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday, Dec. 29 with the matchup slated for BTN or BTN Plus. The game time for the Nittany Lions vs. Retrievers will be announced at a later date.

The Nittany Lions’ Saturday, Dec. 8 nonconference game vs. Colgate will tip off at 2 p.m. on BTN Plus before Penn State leaves the friendly confines of the BJC for its next three games.

Two road games in December will feature Penn State with the Nittany Lions facing N.C. State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 on ESPNU in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Boardwalk Classic in Atlantic City, N.J. The Wed., Dec. 19 game at Duquesne will tip off at 7 p.m. in a game played at PPG Paints Arena and be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

Penn State’s Big Ten Conference schedule resumes on Thursday, Jan. 3 with a trip to Michigan for a 7 p.m. ET game on either ESPN or ESPN2. Penn State students return to campus for the Nittany Lions’ game vs. Wisconsin game in the BJC with a 7:30 p.m. tip time for the Sunday, Jan. 6 contest on BTN.

Penn State will be the 9 p.m. ET timeslot for its game at Nebraska on Thursday, Jan. 10. Either ESPN or ESPN2 will broadcast the first meeting of the season between the Nittany Lions and Huskers from Lincoln, Neb. Penn State welcomes Michigan State for a Sunday, Jan. 13 home game on CBS with a start time to be determined closer to the game date. Tip from the BJC will be either 1:30 or 4:30 p.m. ET.

BTN will broadcast Penn State’s next three games, including two home contests, with a 7 p.m. start time for its home game vs. Iowa on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Following a Saturday, Jan. 19 trip to Minnesota for a 4 p.m. ET game vs. the Golden Gophers, the Nittany Lions return home and face Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 26. The 4:30 p.m. game has been designated the THON game for the 2018-19 season.

Fans will find the Nittany Lions on FS1 for two-straight games, the Thursday, Jan. 31 home game vs. Purdue, scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time, and then on Monday, Feb. 4 when Penn State travels to Northwestern for a 8 p.m. ET tipoff at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Penn State visits Columbus, Ohio, for a Thursday, Feb. 7 game vs. Ohio State. The only regular-season meeting between the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes will be broadcast by ESPN or ESPN2 with a 7 p.m. start time.

A Tuesday night tilt vs. Michigan on Feb. 12 in the BJC puts the Nittany Lions and Wolverines in the 8:30 p.m. ET timeslot on BTN. Back in the BJC the following Tuesday, Penn State plays host to Nebraska on FS1 with a 7 p.m. tipoff on Feb. 19. Sandwiched between the two Tuesday contests is a road game at West Lafayette, Ind., with Penn State and Purdue on BTN at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Four of the final five games of the regular season will be broadcast by BTN, with the home game vs. Maryland on Wednesday, Feb. 27 set for a 6:30 p.m. start time. Back-to-back Saturday games on the road, at Illinois on Feb. 23, and at Wisconsin, will feature the Nittany Lions on BTN. The game in Champaign will tip at Noon ET with a 1 p.m. ET start for the March 2 game vs. the Badgers in Madison, Wisc.

The final road game of the regular season for the Nittany Lions, at Rutgers on Wed., March 6 will also be televised by BTN with a 7 p.m. ET start time. Penn State and Illinois will meet in the final game of the regular season in a Noon contest on Sunday, March 10 on FS1 in the BJC.
