The Penn State men's basketball program is set to host its biggest recruiting weekend of the year Saturday night for the Ohio State game. Let's take a look at the rundown of prospects head coach Patrick Chambers has on tap for a visit:
CLASS OF 2019
Tsimbila committed to Penn State on July 10 and has seen his stock climb in the time since. Rated as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2019, he’s also considered the No. 23 center in the country. He'll be on campus this weekend for his official visit.
McKoy is the most recent addition to Penn State’s Class of 2019, joining Abdou and Patrick Kelly with his announcement on September 12. "Justin is a very talented and versatile forward that competes on both ends," said Rivals.com national recruiting expert Corey Evans. "He is a bit in between spots in the frontcourt but he is also someone that can be used and also flourish as a small ball power forward in the mold of Lamar Stevens." McKoy is taking his official visit to Penn State this weekend.
Penn State has been all-in on Lundy for quite some time and the effort is coming down the home stretch with the Philadelphia Roman Catholic prospect. September 20, Lundy announced his final four as Marquette, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Penn State. He has not yet indicated when a final decision could come, but this is an official visit for Lundy.
CLASS OF 2020
Stute, the No. 109-ranked prospect in the Class of 2020, will be making a return trip to Penn State for the Ohio State game on Saturday night.
Harris is already a Rivals150 prospect for the Class of 2020 out of Myles Dread’s Gonzaga Prep. The four-star prospect has a Penn State offer, has already been on campus, and will make the return trip with Stute this weekend.
Hall is making his first visit to Penn State’s campus after already picking up an offer from the Nittany Lions. He transferred to New Hampton Prep after spending his freshman season at East Catholic in Connecticut.
Hugley picked up his Penn State offer this summer and will make his first visit to the Nittany Lions’ facilities and campus for the Ohio State game.
CLASS OF 2021
Jeffress is already a top 20 prospect nationally for the Class of 2021, was recently named to USA basketball's junior national team, and will be making a return trip to Penn State for the Ohio State game. According to Evans’ national recruiting notebook this past spring, Jeffress, “Can defend three positions, make shots off of the bounce,” and is a fluid athlete, he said.
Dread is coming off his freshman season at Gonzaga where he went for a season-high 13 points, five assists and four rebounds against St. Mary’s Ryken. His brother, Myles, finished as the Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington D.C. as a senior and enrolled at Penn State this summer. Dread is the only visiting prospect this weekend who has yet to officially pick up a Penn State offer.
Corey Evans’ take: “Jeffress is the most talented headed to campus but the group along with him is nothing to bat your eyes at. Malcolm Dread, John Hugley, Chuck Harris, Myles Stute and Trey Hall are all prospects holding high major offers.
“Can they land any of the group? Not sure, but Penn State has continued to make up ground with the younger classes. Each would be immediate producers upon enrollment but look for Seth Lundy to be priority number one as I wouldn’t be surprised to see him commit to the Nittany Lions at the end of the day.”
