I understand kid has to do what he feels he has to do. It is a shame that he doesn’t realize he will just be another blip on the radar that was a one and done at UK, but here (even as a one and done) it would make a significant difference in the program.
I don’t think it helps our chances that we have a first year coach. But He is only going for one year anyway. We will be ok either way
We have one AAU teammate (Brown) verbally committed and another (Oweh) hopefully on the way.
As a fan of our program for over 30 years, I can assure that he realizes that because it has been the mantra of fans and coaches of also ran programs like us since the dawn of time. He also realizes that he would probably get much much more out of being a blip on the radar at a Kentucky or Duke than he would ever get out of being whatever difference maker at a program like us.
Is it a win just to be nominated though? When some kid’s final four football choices is PSU, Bama, Georgia, and Maryland, but it was always gonna be one of the big 3 and that’s where he goes, is that a win for Maryland? I don’t think so. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think better recruits come to a school because a better recruit considered but didn’t end up at that school. To me, the winner in a recruitment is the winner.

Yeah recruits don’t care about the third choice. And anyone paying attention will say we were only third because he is a local kid and his ma works at State.
PSU has no chance, although I hope that my post ends up in the "this didn't age well" bin. Nevertheless, the rest of the MBB recruiting is going well, really well by historical PSU standards.
Yep. And my comment on the Lively recruitment not being a win is not to say I don’t think Shrews is doing a great job recruiting. Excited to see what he can build.
No effect on recruiting if we don’t get him, but it is interesting to be in the running. We probably won’t get him, and he is only going to college because of a Byzantine NBA rule anyway. 20 years ago he would have been drafted out of high school. If we actually do get him, that would be mind bending. We would be celebrating for months
So, I am looking at his recruiting timeline -- do we actually have a chance here? It says Shrewsberry visited him on 9/9 and now all of a sudden he is ready to announce... maybe wishful thinking, but, the predictions of Duke and UK don't seem to be based on anything besides taking OVs. He did not take an OV to PSU but he also lives right next to PSU and has probably been there dozens of times or more
Seems like we are in a distant 3rd place but not out of it completely. does anyone on Shrewsberry's staff have a history of developing big men?

Not a chance… does Lively want to wear adidas (UK) or Nike (Duke). For one and done basketball players it’s about shoe contracts.

I was reading the UK and Duke boards, and both seemed convinced he is going to the other school. Now they are hanging their hat on some Rivals analyst who took a guess that it is Duke. Seems like nobody knows what he is going to do. Maybe we still have hope?
