Hope for the OL for the first time since BOB left the shelf bare.

No knock on BOB. He was dealt a totally Bull Shit hand by a raft of psuedo-leaders.

No knock on Walker but I am really looking forward to seeing Tengwall and Fashanu with Wallace, Wilson and Juice
I think Fashanu's athleticism is off the charts. We shall see.

The TE's however need an extra heavy duty blocking tudor ... for all the atheticism at that position..
they were more disappointing to me than the OL.

Plus Wilson is a senior and done ,Miranda has not made a decision if coming back and effner was backup all season

How many years have we approached a new season believing that the offensive line would be solid? I agree that it looks like we could have a good line this year but history isn’t on our side. I don’t usually blame coaches for a unit’s performance but the failure to develop a good line when we have highly rated and experienced players is puzzling and frustrating. Something must be wrong in the coaching or play calling for this to happen year after year.

Me? None. Until now.

A good line? Well they got a lot of work to do especially if they run the same offensive scheme. It’s got to change. Get back to smash mouth football instead this fancy dancy madden football scheme that only the elite teams can run. PSU is not elite. Only 4-5 teams have elite talent. Good sound fundamental smash mouth football will beat the rest of the field.

Franklin had 8 years and what the hell did he do to help the OL situation?

The offensive line of today is a function of not bringing in enough players at those positions.

Yeah, as much as I criticize O'Brien for not recruiting enough O-Linemen, Franklin seems to do the same. We seem to recruit more than we need players in the secondary and WR when you always need to overrecruit the OL given how it can be more hit and miss and players just don't develop (plus they can take longer to develop and be useful so the roster tends to always have some underclassman dead weight at the bottom of the depth chart until they are ready).

Is there any hope we might sign any other OL for the 2022 class? Doesn't seem like it and I think this class needed another 2 players (1 more in general and 1 from losing Roye) but the staff doesn't seem as anxious about it.

It was, but he went overboard on TEs and WRs

However that is not still affecting the program today. To say the OL issues of today trace back to 2012 is not reasonable
Lol. Nothing traces back 9 years. Your hero Franklin stinks and that's why he has put soft, horrible o lines on the field for all 9 of them.

Perhaps this is more hopeful than realistic, but I agree on better prospects for the 2022 line. A good RB in Singleton will help them, too.

First year recruiting he lost one of his best ol recruits to heart disease. Other than that... Scruggs was in an auto accident... Wormley injured...Cadean Wallace not Bad...Fashanu...promising...Tengwall Walker not bad but will be much better in an pro set Offen
Have to remember is was a sanction numbers game

No depth and everyone with bad knees.. ya PSU was loaded at OL.

He had very limited classes and roster. Nobody ever had to deal with that before. He was making it up as he went along

Moving Wallace from RT to guard will go along way towards improving the OL. He’s playing outta position. He doesn’t have the footwork or quickness to play tackle.

I have wondered if Trautwein and Yurcich are not aligned on offensive philosophy.

The TE’s are truly the worst blockers we have had at that position in many years. Not only were they not interested in blocking, but often went the wrong direction during the running play. It Always seemed like the defense had extra players on run plays and it was because the te’s were awful blockers.

Miranda belongs on a D3 field.
He was 2nd team All-Big 10 last year at guard! He can play and lead. I think he was out of position at center. Put him back at guard and let Scruggs start at Center. I hope Miranda comes back. We need his experience and leadership.

Yeah. It's all their fault. Not the five guys who are supposed to block. Na.

He stinks. He got blown into the backfield nearly every single game. Not sure what game film you are watching but if you absolutely need it we can put together a tape for you.

How can he go from 2nd team All-Big 10 at guard one year and not be able to block the next year? The answer is, he was in a new position and had to take over leadership of the line from Menet. He and Eric Wilson were also trying to help our two slug OTs in Walker and Wallace who were incapable of handing a basic stunt or twist! I hope he comes back next year. We need SMART leadership on the OL.

Well I watched the tape. Did you? Apparently not.

Football is not as simplistic as you seem to indicate, and I did not indicate the OL is without blame for the run game. However, I don’t see much difference in their blocking compared to other years. I do see a large difference that the te’s are horrible blockers never creating a true lead block. Saquon and Sanders both ran behind questionable run blocking but obviously were good enough to overcome. Lee dances in the backfield trying to hit homeruns and Cain was still injured and obviously slow. The one defense I can make for the 2021 OL is that I truly believe the pass blocking was the best since Paterno left. There were times even against good competition that Clifford had all day long in the pocket.

Well how about putting him back at guard and he will be All-Big 10 again! Easy fix there!
He played guard a number of times this past season if you hadn't noticed. Didn't seem effective at either guard or center. This PSU team had very little success running up the middle, which really became apparent on short yardage situations.

You know that’s what I thought too. However I checked this year’s Penn State and Alabama’s rosters and they both had 20 offensive lineman listed. The numbers don’t appear to be the problem.

I see the 20. I believe 15 are scholarship. I had looked at Alabama and Georgia at what they were bringing in every year on their commitment list.
From 2021 to 2018 numbers of scholarship lineman brought in were:

PSU 2 4 3 4
Bama 5 3 5 2
UGA 4 6 3 5

OSU(for good measure) 3 6 4 3

I'll bet Henry VIII would have been a great blocking tudor (in his later years).
You couldn't control yourself. You just had to make an Tudor dynasty joke! I am notifying the Board monitors! You know there is a no belittling Monarchs policy on the Board!
