how bout some rasslin talk - pretty cool review/predictions for the upcoming season

Funny thing to say about a Cowboy: “You can bet as hungry as he's been thus far in his career, this season he'll be starved.” ;)

Man, JT put a butt load of work into that; the man is dedicated to the sport like no one else that I know!

As an aside, I've met and become friends (some more close than others) with four forum posters over the years, and JT is still the closest friend that I have among all of them who post. He's a super good guy, and does a lot of good for this sport.

fun read, thanks for posting...my 3 takeaway

1. I Agree with BOSCO2 there should be some mention of the guys coming in at 125-133 for PSU

2. Fix at 133...Im sad if that comes true..want Lee V Fix again..with Lee kicking Ass

3. I guess only Pa Studs Smile in iowa;)

He doesnt think Araju (sp?) will be in the Cornell lineup?
Saw that and a few others -- wondering if he didn't comment on certain weights on certain teams because he didn't have good info at press time.

For example: no mention of Ohio State's 165 either. I would've guessed Kaleb Romero, and also would've guessed Romero would merit some mention. But maybe the author wasn't confident enough about Romero being the guy at 165 to mention?

As comprehensive as this review is -- a lot better than I could've done. If I tried something this big, it would be riddled with holes.

If Yianni stays at 141, it might be hard to fit him into the lineup. That being said, he may be able to make 133 and is probably better than Tucker if he can.

Biggest error of omission. He didn't say anything about AJ in the Fresno State write up, and he had the best record on the team. I'll bet we see him listed in the pre-season rankings this fall.

It has been a long time since I saw anyone giving praise to Pitt Wrestling. About time....but....I'll believe it when I see it actually happen.

I'm just sure of this. When looking but, people may actually look in the mirror and say..V Joseph was the real deal. Although I doubt it. He'll win 4. Yes, VJ is that damn good. I don't know why people don't get that.
Sometime not too long after Cenzo claims his 4th NCAA gold a small group of dimwits will post "Joesph is the least, worst or some other diminishing adjective 4 time champion in NCAA history."

Fix at 133 is where I am leaning too, but until we see it who knows. A Lee vs Fix match will be worth the wait. After a second year of seasoning I don't see anyone beating Lee and he will be the biggest threat to Nolf for the Hodge even over Bo IMO.

If Fix goes 133, all is not lost, as the loss of a Lee matchup is countered by the gain of a Fix vs he who should not be named from NJ. I'll take Fix in that one, denying once again Lord Voldemort of his destiny. Glorious karma.

Now Now.....what happens if Penn State needs "He who shall not be named from NJ" to defeat Fix to keep Okie State from being National Champions? Whom will you root for sir? Unlikely...yes......but not impossible.

133 is going to be a meat-grinder this year, with or without Fix or Suriano. If Wilson continues to wrestle the way he did at NCAAs I could see him in the finals.

On paper at least, OSU has a fairly deep lineup. Not a lot of high placers however they could have a bunch of AAs. A lot of variables and they could end up any where from 2nd to 5th depending on how things fall.

Iowa is similar. Deep lineup with the potential for several AAs but not too many high placers and "only" 1-2 finalist most likely. I'd favor them for second over OSU but they may need several guys that haven't AAed yet to break through. Don't see enough 1-3 guys to make them a threat to a healthy Penn State team.

In theory, a 4 or 5 team race is going to bring the winning score down from last year's 2-team race. Those 1st though 4th place points are going to be divided up among more than just 2 teams.

IMO it can only help us since our points 157-184 are pretty much written in stone, no matter how deep the field. Nolf, Joseph, Hall and Nicole are 10 for 10 reaching the finals, and 7-10 winning it all ... hard to bet against that.

Maybe we don't reach 140 without Zain, but unless one of OSU, tOSU or Iowa has a perfect tourney I don't see any of them reaching 120.

I would be surprised to see Fix at 133 unless he thinks 61kg is his future (which is doubtful since it is a non-Olympic weight). He weighed in a pound or so under for Final X so I don't think 57kg is a terrible cut at this point.

Now is OSU better with Picc at 125 and Fix at 133? Absolutely. But I will believe it when I see it.

Who is JT?

JT is very passionate about wrestling of all kinds and been posting and blogging in one way or another as long as I have been participating on the forums. He is also the shortest Professional Wrestler of all time, well excluding the little people. :D I'm about the same height and can't fathom weighing 200lbs and being in any semblance of shape. In college he would be a 149, lol.

He just isn't as flashy all the time as guys like Nolf and Nickal, and he isn't the hammer that Zain was. I think VJ wins 4 titles as well (the first PSU wrestler to ever do it) but he gets overlooked because he is compared to his teammates. I think people see him as more likely to drop a match during the season than guys like Zain, Jason, or Bo so they haven't put him in the same category.

Also, he was the underdog the last two years when he won both of his titles. He was 2-3 against IMar and both wins were in the finals of the NCAA. VJ is my favorite wrestler on the PSU team and it's a shame he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt like other guys.

He wrestled 140 in high school. Yes, he is a bit short.

The first time that I met him the first thing that he said to me was, "Man, you're really tall!" I'm 6'2", so I do tower above him.

I liked the statement about Hall. After the loss to Valencia, I think there might have been a bit of an exaggeration about the gap between the two. Yes, Valencia has won most of them, but I think Mark Hall is the clear #2 at that weight going into the season. I also found the remark about Kemerer vs Valencia interesting also, that could be an interesting matchup also. 174 is a weight that interests me heading into the season. Yes, Valencia the favorite clearly, but Hall and Kemerer are going to be a factor. I'm not counting Mark Hall out just yet.
Just an opinion, but after Valencia and Hall there is everybody else. Kemerer may prove to be the best of the rest, but just like there is seperation between Nolf and Kemerer that seperation will also exist at 174.

Is Zahid going 174 again? TIA

I do not know. I was just going along with the parameters of info offered at the beginning of the thread.
If he goes to 184 then Kemerer and a few others are competing with each other to see who gets to finish runner-up to Mark. The distance from Kemerer to Hall is significant.

If Valencia is 174 then he and Mark are very much the class alphas.

Thanks for clarifying. I always thought this was wrong.

"Strong talk from various PSU fans on various facebook wrestling groups that Nevills is done wrestling. Unconfirmed, yet to validate or repudiate, rumor has it that he had a final surgery and that was it."

Guess I missed that. I need to pay closer attention
