How do you enter an image into the message box?

Right click the image you want to embed, hit 'Copy Image URL or Copy Image Address', select the little picture icon from the menu (to the right of the smiley face) and paste the URL/address there. Voila.

Are you talking about updating your avatar, or your signature block? You can upload your avatar from your computer. To get an image into your signature block, the only way I know how to do that is to host the image on a free image hosting site (Photobucket, Imgur, Flickr, etc.) and generate HTML code you can cut/paste into the block.
