Mayor de Blasio last week moved to bring law and order — well, a semblance of order — to Times Square, the Battery and Coney Island.
Scores of cops will flood the landmarks to tamp down panhandling and related anti-social behavior by aggressive Elmo impersonators — and, of course, to protect tourists from the now-infamous Naked Ladies of New York City.
Another teapot tempest, calmed.
But how is it that such a low-grade nuisance was allowed to blossom into a public-relations uproar so intense that people were speculating on primary opponents for de Blasio two years out?
The Times Square fandango was just one in a series of unforced errors that are coming to define de Blasio’s mayoralty — including, most recently, the Legionnaires’ disease fiasco in The Bronx, his humiliating defeat in the Uber dust-up and the schooling he took from City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito on hiring more cops.
