How long can we realistically hope to keep Joe Moorehead at PSU?

He and Limegrover have an awful lot to do with the surprising success of this team. I can't help but believe he will have plenty of suitors, as early as this year. If 2017's offense is anything like this year, he will certainly be one of the flavors of the month.

I give James Franklin a lot of credit for knowing who to hire. He is a good CEO!

he doesn't seem like the type that will jump at the first opportunity unless it was too good to pass up. He's got a lot of talent to work with next year that should push his stock even higher. Said his family was estatic to move to PA when he was hired.

Well, if you read David Jones (not many do) he is gone this year !!!! Actually, he has done a good job BUT I think most of the credit should be to Franklin. He is the one that signed the QB and convinced Barkley to pick PSU. Franklin was ALL ABOUT the mobile QB !!!! Limegrover fit what Franklin wanted for HIS offense.

If we have a double-digit win season in 2017, I would think Moorhead would be a very attractive candidate for MAC jobs or low-level P5 gigs after the 2017 season. I could see him going somewhere like Kent State after 2017, or if he wants to wait longer he could get solid P5 head coaching interest after 2018. He's already been a head coach, so that might speed up his timeline.

I have to sit back, smile, and think about this "problem" we have. It was just a short time ago the NCAA tried to kill the program. Not only did they not kill use, but we are back in national prominence and we now we have speculation on how long till programs try to hire our coaches and we are in the battle for top rated recruits and have top tier programs trying to flip our kids. How many head coaches in waiting can we have; Spence, Pry, and Moorehead?! I think after the raises and contract extension last year (for the next two years IIRC) we are good for this year and next, but after next season you can start seeing some movement from our coaching staff. Hope JF is keeping that folder with potential coaches updated.

I don't know... here's the thing, we are a winning blue blood program once again. Soon, coaches will be salivating to be at PSU. Luckily, seems like we have a good one who may be interested in the long haul.

If you're going to try and be a successful poser-troll, it would help if you at least spell the coach in question's name correctly. Holy smokes you posers are so habitually lame it isn't even funny.....

I really don't get these CEO analogies.

I head a JF interview the other day (maybe on the Thursday coaches show) where he said in the years he has been a HC, he has called 4 offensive plays and lets the coordinators call the plays. That is pretty hard for me to believe. But if he does, isn't that the idea of a CEO...you delegate and you just oversee?

I hope all the coaches enjoy the bouquets that are being tossed in their direction. A more interesting question might be....How many loses would it take until this board is inundated with demands that the entire staff be fired?

These are good problems to have. Last year at this time we were just about to have our OC fired. My how times have changed.

Was thinking about that after the win Saturday. At the beginning of the season I think most would have been satisfied with an 8-4 regular season. If PSU ends up 10-2 then Franklin has really raised the bar for next year and beyond. Can't imagine the board next year if PSU returns to 7-5.

Realistically, one more year.
Realistically, don't you think it takes more than two years to learn how to run a big time program similar to PSU? If his success continues, along with the attendant hype, I think Moorhead will aim higher than a Pitt-stop or Rutgers gig, Akron, Cincy sort of move. Just a thought.

We know of an bridge jumper who could and has predicted much worse than 7-5 If there's a bad start. There's no evidence that this person's irrational remarks and behavior would change (ever).;)

I never blame kids that are heavily recruited when they make their choice. Its their life and they only have one opportunity to chase their dream. Coaches might also get one real opportunity to cash in. I think we forget that these are family men who factor in not only their futures, but the impact of their careers on their children. A head coach signing a multi-year deal at 3 million per, is the only security they will ever see. I joke about fans turning on coaches, but it is reality. When they have the opportunity to grab the brass ring, well, they have waited a lifetime for the opportunity. Penn State needs to be proactive and offer a contract to JoeMo that makes him the highest paid asst. coach in the Big Ten.

It's amazing how coaches can "forget" how to coach from one year to the next. LOL

It would help speed up Dave Jones demise if Penn State people like you would get on the wagon and boycott his columns like others have done.

I don't like to go back in time and compare the current staff to Penn State's former staff, so I apologize now.
How many offers did we KNOW of with Ganter, Bradley and (dare I say) Sandusky, along with other assistants? Some tested other waters, and returned or turned the offers down.
Maybe, just maybe, the egos of the current staff are such that we have a group of men willing to stay, build and maintain a high level program.

OL

Not quite that simple. With nine assistants and four GAs, any HC who isn't immersed in the details of game-planning and practice leading up to Saturday isn't a HC for very long. Any HC who isn't analyzing the minutiae of what take place on the field is also a short-timer. Really good HCs are hardly detached; they are detail-oriented, control freaks.

JoeMo already turned down a couple of head coaching opportunities when he accepted the job as PSU OC.

I think he is getting too much credit for the teams success. Trace has made the difference, along with limegrover. This offense was nothing special until Trace started running. Don't forget Trace in last years bowl game with the "bad coaching," and it was his first game basically. I am not saying Moorhead is not a good coach, and he wont be a head coach again, but I am not worried about replacing him.

I agree with you, but I was going off what Coach said in the interview. I don't for a second believe he's not involved in the details but I struggle to accept he's only called a few plays in his tenure.
