Since we are talking nerdly things, when I post a GIF it also includes the whole address link with it while everyone else seems to just be able to post a GIF without the address connected. What gives?

<div style="width:100%;height:0;padding-bottom:100%;position:relative;"><iframe src="https://giphy.com/embed/j2Brn3luUP7BxLdgvB" width="100%" height="100%" style="position:absolute" frameBorder="0" class="giphy-embed" allowFullScreen></iframe></div><p><a href="">via GIPHY</a></p>

Are you using the gif button?

Yeah I still don't know how to post a gif.

gif button says, this content can't be entered here.

If you're trying to post an image or gif from your own device, then you need to use something like Postimages.com (link below). There is no account needed for Postimages.com. I think Imgur might work too, but I don't have direct experience with that.

When you upload your image or gif to Postimages.com it will generate a link that you can add to your post (see below). Copy & Paste that link to your post & your image or gif should appear. Easy peazy, lemon squeezy.

Yes, works the same way with imgur.com. You create a free acct, then go to your acct, click on new post, copy and paste a url to the image you want to use from an online source or upload from your computer, then post. You can choose to post to public or hidden. Either way, you can then grab the direct link to the image, gif, or whatever and paste that link here.

Easy peasy, never queasy.

So you seem to be copying and pasting what's known as "embed code" from giphy here:

But on this site, Rivals has made posting images and other embeddable content easier to do with no code, and just the URL--so for Giphy (because it's one of the many sites Rivals has integrated directly), you can copy the "Link" instead and paste in in your message like this:
https://giphy.com/embed/j2Brn3luUP7BxLdgvB

And it will automatically embed like this:

Which is OK but not ideal.

But coincidentally, Rivals will try to embed ANY url you paste, so if I get the URL in the top browser bar of the screenshot above and paste it:
https://giphy.com/gifs/bestfriends-save-them-all-bfas-bfasadopt-j2Brn3luUP7BxLdgvB

It actually winds up looking better:

You'll notice I used Imgur to show you the screenshot at the top. Imgur (where I upload my static, non-animated images/gifs) is protective of their branding, and it seems like no matter how I share images from them, it always ends up showing their branding as you see at the top of my post.

The moral of the story is, how this works will vary from image host to image host, depending on what protections they have on their content displaying with or without their branding, and whether Rivals has integrated that service specifically, or more generically with their own tools.

Rivals does indeed now have a [GIF] button in the toolbar at the top of your post editor--and that is by far the easiest--just search & click, but I often turn to Giphy myself to find the one I want,.

Nerfstate, thanks so much for taking the time to go into detail on this topic. One of the many things I love about this Board is how many posters go out of their way to be helpful and pass along great information.

I will definitely be able to draw one up take a Pic of it and put it on here before I can figure it out but thank you guys for the help much a appreciated.

But basically what you guys are saying is, you have to go to a different web page to find a gif then copy it and paste it? If you can understand my non computerish vocabulary.

There are some gifs that you can post without using an external website. When you make a post, there is a "more options" choice (see pic 1). If you click on "more options," one of those additional options will be a "gif" button (see pic 2). That will allow you to search for & post a gif from giphy.com.

If you want to post a gif that isn't on giphy.com, then you have to use an external hosting site.

My mind is blown. That's way too easy, a three year old could've figured that out,WOW!

THANK YOU!

Lmao. For the life of me, I've never understood why our 2 big sports sites couldn't just allow cutting and pasting like ever other social media site. Why I gave up on it years ago. I'm sure there's a valid reason, I simply don't get it.

Thanks to SlipperyPete step by step now I finally know how to do it! I tried in past using another app and pasting it in the URL and it wasn’t quick and didn’t integrate properly. Just use the “more options” button in Pete’s post and the magic happens

Storage & bandwidth cost. A still image is hundreds/thousands of times larger than your average text only post. An animated gif is another order of magnitude more than that. Rivals will show you a gif that is on someone else’s server because it costs them almost nothing. Copy/Paste would get really costly at scale. Especially when you consider thousands of views per page.

Facebook/Twitter has plenty of money, by comparison.

It does not always work. Some devices are different. For me the "image" icon works.
