Mayfield High School wrestler Canaan Bower stopped a suspected kidnapping at a New Mexico convenience store Wednesday.

Bethany Freudenthal of the Las Cruces Sun-News reported Daniel Arroyo Beltran is accused of assault on several patrons and employees at a Chucky's Gas Station after witnesses said he attempted to kidnap three children from the store.

Troy Bower, Canaan's dad, said his 16-year-old son was filling up his truck at a nearby gas station when he heard the commotion and drove to the scene.

"So my son—who just won the wrestling district championship weeks ago—just came up behind this guy and body-slammed him and got him in a chokehold and waited for the police to show up," the elder Bower told Freudenthal.

Troy explained he had a mixed reaction after hearing about his son's heroics.

"I wanted to wring his neck," he said. "You fear for your own child's safety in that situation. You don't know if this guy's maybe got a gun or a knife—you don't know what this guy's capable of. I'm sure other people saw what was going on and didn't get involved. It's very terrifying that your child put himself at risk but, at the same time, confident that he would do the right thing and succeed in doing it."

Beltran has been charged with four counts of battery, two counts of assault, two counts of child abuse and one count of kidnapping after being arrested.

Also contains security video footage. The hero is the obvious HS HWT wrestler entering at about 2:00. The takedown is off camera -- but right out of a Wade Schalles legend, he drags the perp onto the red spot on the floor and sticks him there for 3+ minutes until the cops arrive.

The "choke hold" looks an awful lot like a straight half.

This is entirely on topic, but not directed specifically at Lion, as it's been on my mind for some time. I've noticed that a number of people on this site, when linking/sharing an article, don't really do it properly (by this I mean doing so in a manner that supports the website who originally posted said article).

As someone who produced written content creation for a number of website, here's a tip-include an excerpt of some sort, something no longer than a paragraph, then provide a link to the article. This is the best way to increase traffic for the website who wrote the article and keep them in business.

Finally, an additional tangentially related side note most people aren't familiar with-You'd be amazed at the analytics for written pieces. Did you know that every time a reader is forced to "click" something, be it link, pop up tab, anything, readership drops by approximately 30%? Add in a number of factors such as, but not exclusive to, the increasing prevalence of video content, you find that producing written content is a very hard business in which to remain profitable, particularly for smaller or niche operations. I hope people keep this in mind going forward.

Kid was great, but, man it seemed like an eternity before a cop showed up. People were on their phones while the attempted kidnapping took place. I’m assuming they were calling 911.

He had him pinned for almost as long as Jimmy Gulibon had Dean Heil pinned.

Watched the surveillance video; kinda of looked like that every time that loser thought about moving a bit , that hero just tightened that hold up a little bit more. World needs more guys like that, to thwart these losers.

The perp was the smallest person in that whole video, and its not close.
That convenience store must sell a lot of donuts.

I liked that the woman threatened to whack the pinned guy with the plastic wet floor ~“cone”.

I think the bystanders could’ve helped a little bit more. Maybe take off the guys boots to make him less dangerous and have less traction. Duck tape his feet together. Something like that.

Was the guy trying to kidnap his kids from the estranged wife?

Another case of an arse whole that throws a punch like he’s throwing a slider. Lucky the kid only took him down and nobody piled on with a few stomps to the forehead.
