Hypothetically!! Retherford v Nolf?

Id pick Zain to win

Retherford was fantastic last year, but Nolf annihilated everyone not named "Martinez" and completely wrecked a deeper weight class. I'm a huge IMar fan but Nolf was a ****ing terminator and dispatched everyone with ease until the final, and I was pretty sure he'd win it all. I feel like Retherford didn't have the same level of competition.

Or did Retherford make his competition look that much more inferior? We should ask Spyker who wins in the practice room...

Haha! Good call! Heck, I'd pay way more to see a practice room match between those two studs than I'd pay to see them demolish their counterparts from Northwestern or Nebraska
or whatever...

I remember during the season there was an article that said they needed to limit how much they wrestled in practice because of how intense it got. Both are warriors and refused to be outdone by the other and it just got too heated at times.

I think if you asked zain he would say they each have their days.

I think if you asked jason he would say zain.

What would happen in an actual match that meant something. Zain.

Look at his bracket is Olympic trials.

Nolf wrestled up a tad but not much but zain is farm boy strong in his ties and you all know how he is on top which is better than imar.

My opinion solely

Word is they had a 17-minute match in the room;)...and had to be separated!! Not because it was chippy, but because they're both so darned competitive...and would have gone all afternoon! It was a draw...

In one year Zain was nearly unrecognizable. He added strength to his great wrestling ability. Knocked off Steber (yes he lost to him twice) and lost to Port. 3 losses as a true freshman. How would these matches go now with Zain's new physique? The other question is how would Nolf do if he got strength like Zain did? I think Nolf would make his competition look as weak as Zain made his look.

Ha...this story came from a source even more credible than spyker ;).

I honestly think the gains are exaggerated. He had about 18 months and is noticeably bigger and stronger, but people are making him out to be some Incredible Hulk. He still looked smaller than Panteleo and others.

Pantaleo certainly looked puffier in the face.

I do... And did !
JohnDoe - From what i seen Jason and Zain are very close. But Jason was getting the best of him when they were both on their feet....I will say it was crazy to watch....Now Zain was getting the best of Jason on top when they were doing live goes on the mat...Love both of them big time. Awesome to watch ! I would encourage others to come watch a few practices....THEY ARE INSANE AT TIMES !!!!

Pantaleo is the perfect example. I saw him vs Zain in person twice this year, and especially the first time, was surprised how much bigger he was than Zain. Of course, by the second period of the match, the size difference didn't seem nearly as daunting!

When are they?

This is an interesting thread. So many times I hear from fans that the reason their guy lost was because he was undersized, wrestling up a weight or something along those lines. I'm now wondering if that's just a bull**** excuse. Iowa fans like to use this alot and have done so recently when some of their recruits were beaten by "bigger" guys. So I'm wondering, is it a valid excuse.

Some are saying Zain beats Nolf every time. If it is a valid excuse then I wonder is Zain just that damn good or is that Nolf is maybe not as good as we tend to believe. Nolf clearly is bigger, placed second at Nationals and pinned the undefeated returning national champion. Did all that yet can't beat someone a weight class below him? It's interesting to consider.

Getting back to the Iowa fans, I've seen where some said Lee was undersized against Fix and that's why he lost. Some said he was undersized when Suriano beat him that first meeting. Yet when concerns arise on whether he will ever be a full sized 125lber they say it doesn't matter because Lee is strong for the weight and really is that good where size won't matter. Well if size mattered against Fix and Suriano, why wouldn't it matter when he's wrestling essentially grown men in college? I guess I'm confused on that.
