Since we're only about three weeks away from the first game against Akron (unfortunately, a noon kickoff), its never too early for an I-80 construction report. I've traveled I-80 between State College and Tannersville frequently in the past several weeks.
Between the I-380 and the Hazleton exit westbound, there are two 5+ mile segments of single lane. Between I-380 and Tannersville, there are two segments of single lane. These look like they're going to be there for a while. During the week, I've seen traffic backed up in both directions for miles.
Between the Bloomsburg and Milton exits, both east and west bound, there is a significant construction zone. There are two lanes open in each direction, but the lanes split and there is a crossover. Speed is reduced significantly in these areas because the lanes are narrow and you're right up against Jersey barriers.
For those traveling east bound on I-80 after the game and continuing onto I-81 Northbound, they're still working on interchange. The access lane to I-81 North is very narrow and those tire-biting potholes are still on the road.
I don't know if there are any better alternatives on the back roads (i.e. rte 45 or rte 192 from Lewisburg) since there's construction on these roads too from time to time.
Leave early and expect backups.
