I don't see Sanders as living up to the hype. Need a Rb to step up next year.

He dances too much because I think he's trying to emulate Barkley. He's most effective when he's decisive, chooses a hole and goes. Next year's OL will be better, so I think he'll have a nice year.

Sanders will be a good one. He hits the hold fast and hard and has great speed and moves. I'm really excited to see what he'll do in 2018. The bigger issue is who will our backups be. Losing Robinson is huge as Slade and Journey have potential but no experience at the college level. I hope Scott stays for 2018 as he'll be a very valuable running back for us.

I feel like Sanders is going to be another Akeel Lynch. A good back but a guy this board has made into something he can't live up to be. It won't be as extreme (some thought Lynch was the second coming of KiJana) but same type of "overhype". Time will tell. If he isn't the answer I have confidence we'll find another back on the roster to step up.

Literally never heard anyone make a statement even remotely close to that

So this board hyped him to the point he was a 5 Star rb?

Yes, he's extremely overhyped. People actually have said we won't miss Barkley next year. SMH
Stars mean nothing--see Morreli and countless others.
I don't understand why this fan base acts as though we have to pretend every guy we have is elite. Sanders isn't an every down back IMO--if he proves me wrong I'll own it. If he isn't you'll all claim you said he wasn't

Congratulations to everyone, including the fans, for an awesome Penn State football season! Entire Penn State Football Team must be congratulated!

SB is all time great player, I am blessed to watch him play! Please do not compare any future RB with him. Avoid disappointment!

Sanders is another excellent player! Just enjoy his accomplishments next season!!

I don't remember anybody proclaiming Lynch was the second coming of Carter, but he was a definite upgrade over Belton and Zwinak.

Whether you think Sanders is over hyped or not is irrelevant. The bigger question is, do you think Franklin and staff missed on Brown and Slade? Was Barkley a pure anomaly in the middle of a bunch of average RBs?

Sanders will have a nice season, if he can stay healthy, for a number of reasons: SB leaving means we will see more passing to help ease the running lanes, the OL will be significantly better opening running lanes, we will see more option sets with Trace and our new Lion position taking some pressure off Sanders, and Sanders will be blocking a lot and he showed last night he can do that.

He doesn't have to be an every down back...we have others. Not to mention we have the best QB in the Big (and maybe the country) coming back. Can't be overhyped if he hasn't had a legit shot yet.

Keep in mind, it is highly improbable that there will ever be another Saquon - like back at PSU in our lifetimes.
Exactly. We could recruit the #1 running back in the country every year for the next 25 years and none of them would probably be as good as Saquon Barkley.

That said, even though Sanders isn't as good as Barkley, if he continues to average 7 yards per carry I think we'll be just fine.

Over 7 ypc for Sanders so far in his PSU career. Wtf are you people watching?

Yeah, I don't get this at all. He's played really well when given a shot. People forget he killed it in camps and the Under Armor game against the best in the country. He's going to be fine.

Before Lynch ever played a down people were comparing him to KiJana. We can blame Phil for that but it happened.

I think we will have a back on the roster that will be very good next year and Sanders will be a very good compliment to him. The elite back went to Georgia but I have faith that one of the backs will step up. It might even be Sanders--I just don't believe that to be the case. We're all wrong at times--hopefully I am this time

RB is the least of our problems. TE is more of a concern, in my view, and even that position is not devoid of potential.

But yeah, Booby averaged 7 ypc, while facing defenses that just treated him the same way they watched SB when he was in. Things will be different next year. I won't be surprised at all when Sanders gets 1000 yards.

You can be overhyped when people are claiming that a player can step in to the point where we won't miss Barkley. Alabama would miss Barkley. Every team would.
I said he can be a compliment--a good compliment

Please quote a few posts stating we won’t miss Barkley. I haven’t noticed any but they should be easy for you to find since they’re so plentiful apparently.

Over the course of the past two seasons Saquon averaged 5.6 ypc, Sanders 6.7. I think we will be fine but if not, maybe the British rugby guy will be the answer.

lol--you really haven't seen that? Or how the run game and offense will be better next year?

I frequented TOS more in Lynch's recruiting and playing days. He didn't carry that hype over there. General consensus was Royster 2.0, and he probably would have been if Barkley had not come into the fold. Of course, the difference in Royster and Carter is huge regardless of the record books.

Our OL is the key to any RB success. Fries is our most physical run blocker and I would not be shocked if another player emerges to start like he did. An off-season dedicated to being more physical is in store. Can they step up is the question.

If he has to hold, it's great that he does it fast and hard.

Scott played extensively at SAFETY yesterday, and I thought he had a few too many mistakes for being a RS Junior that has played Safety for a couple of years now. If Scott comes back for 2018 it will be to compete to be a starting Safety, or at least the 3rd Safety. Not as a RB.

It was Phil's fault. He reports of Lynch were crazy and guys ran with it. Completely agree with about the OL--that was the issue in 2014 & 2015

In all fairness, a large percentage of Miles' runs were between the Tackles. That hasn't been a strength of PSU's ground game at any time this season, so it's a bit much to point fingers at MS.

I think Miles is a Deceivingly quick and strong runner. More carries will help him get in the groove.

I honestly think anyone stating this will look as silly if not worse than those that questioned Franklin or Trace. Maybe it didn't flash yesterday, but I know I've seen him flash in limited reps. You're also seeing him compared to probably the best and most complete RB ever to wear a PSU uniform. If you're saying he isn't a Barkley...well congrats there and don't hold your breath waiting on the next SB to come around. Sanders is going to burst on to the scene next year in a big way...not a doubt in my mind.

He seems to have shaken any ball security issues, and I think he breaks out next year as well
