I get the feeling that people would be disappointed if we land Jerrae Hawkins.

I might be wrong but there seems to be a negative vibe about this kid. He has game-changing speed, can move in traffic, plays both ways and doesn't seem to shy away from contact, and he had a top ten 60 meter time last year in indoor track, 6.69 seconds for what amounts to 65 yards. Sure, he isn't big. Neither was K.J. Hamler and he turned out pretty well. Check out Hawkins' video. He is a difference maker.

It's crazy that a month ago, WR recruiting seemed disappointing and now we have potentially more guys than space available.

Hawkins is visiting this weekend correct?

Changed his commitment date as well.

Which WR target are we losing to free up a spot for Hawkins?

Agreed that a high tide floats all boats, and our water is rising. I want guys who want to be PSU football players. Someone like Parker Washington is a great example over Shorter. Measurables matter, but there is an element of heart that must be there too.

KJ showed that on the last first down vs Michigan. Seems forever...a Sean Clifford QB lifetime ago : )

100%

I tend to favor HS production over pure athleticism as well. At least balanced over time.

Changed his commitment date to what?

I think he was going to commit earlier than he is now (moved from 6/26 to 7/something I believe) or vice versa. Info came out after it became known he was taking his OV this weekend. I think. I could be wrong. Been a lot of info. Might have it mixed up.

I agree and good, precise route runners with strong hands, as well as grit and heart to get a ball in traffic are more of a priority than pure athleticism and speed. Sometimes these highly rated guys are pure athletes and/or speed guys who never had to work much on footwork and route running in high school because they just out athleted the defense to get open. That doesn't happen in big boy college football.

Listening to Steve Jones, he says Cephus will work like a dog to win the ball. Love that!

I will be thrilled if Hawkins commits to Penn State. Your summary description is excellent. In my opinion, Hawkins is THE best WR on the PSU board.

Hawkins is the next K.J. Hamler. Penn State needs speed, speed, speed.

I’ve had enough of the big, slow, plodding receivers who do not present a vertical threat against teams like Ohio State and Michigan.

we don't need someone who commits to PSU in June, only to de-commit in DEC and immediately then commit to Florida or other SEC school (takes the SEC offer -Babes, $, and no academics, other hidden benefits) !!!! I think that is the negative you are sensing.

We are protecting ourselves from very late decommits by taking at least 5 WR's. We should also, at this point, tell Hawkins if he wants to commit, NO visits elsewhere. If he does, he loses his PSU spot immediately.

FWIW, TOS is projecting Hawkins to Florida.

And being that he's announcing tomorrow morning.....
