For me, like many, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Part of that is I still have a childlike wonder in the magic of colored lights and the beauty of Christmas Carols. Most of it though, is an adult realization that Christmas is not about presents and eggnog. It's about a Baby in a manger and his message of hope and joy, love and peace. These days that message seems to be lost. We have a country divided and a world rocked by terrorists. Rather than despair, I take comfort in three stanzas of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day."

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said:
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Merry Christmas to all members of this board. Peace and Joy to you and to your families. God Bless us, every one!

I see the lights, I see the party lights
They're red and blue and green
Everybody in the crowd's there
But you won't let me make a scene

Well, mama dear, look here, oh dear
There goes Mary Lou
I see Tommy and Joe, oh, oh, and Betty Sue
Oh, oh, and there goes my boyfriend too
I see the lights

Sorry - my warped mind makes strange connections.

We often sing that in church during the Christmas season.
