I just spent a couple of minutes at the Test Board and decided to return to the place where insanity

I always say that the last people I want to discuss politics with are the sort of people who have the time to discuss politics online.
At least the test board is more in touch with reality than the lair!
The testboard isn't a place of constructive and productive political discussion. It's a cesspool where the banter rivals a Hatfield/McCoy relationship. It doesn't take a genius to operate there. Just pick a side and deny deny deny or accuse accuse accuse. Not very informative.
I asked a serious question to the regulars about why that board is what it is and the best response I got was "because it's fun."
Some posters over there write things that I feel a need to dispute and/or correct. Much like their master, they think it's okay just to spout anything, regardless of its veracity. But you're right, whacko city in that joint. I visit for a bit, then retreat.makes sense.

I have never once been on the test board, at least on purpose... maybe someone shared and link and it took me there. The same is true with the Pitt board. There is already too much drama in life today, why would I want to seek out more of it?
I like how you put it. What is funny is that you said this board is no different than that one. Shall we discuss "screwface", Paterno, Sandusky, Hackenberg, etc.?
Fact is, message boards are places where people go to voice their opinions, most often without anyone knowing who you are. As such, you get to be someone you are not.
For me, I like almost all of the people that post on the test board. They are passionate about politics and if you meet them in person, are smart and reasoned people. Many times, test boarders have reached out to opposition posters to provider personal help.
Think of it like the microphones pick up two players trash talking during a game. Afterward, they go have dinner. That's the test board. But you've got to be on it for a while before you "get it".

I'll stick up for the Test Board. I post here and on that board, too (as well as the Wrestling board also, which makes me a diversified time waster).

This is why I hate it when a thread on this board is moved over to the test board. Been there once. Never again. By and large at least people on this board, even those with whom I disagree vehemently, seem to approach things with some degree of equanimity. Last time I checked, this board is for other general topics as well as sports. Moving threads, regardless of topic, begun here by posters with a history of rationality to that cesspool is a disservice.makes sense.

The "test" bored is named correctly. I tried some years ago (since I apparently have no life). Stopped a few days later. A short time ago I posted something just to "drop the crazy grenade". It REALLY is very funny, a bit scary. But, as I have said many times, the AVERAGE IQ is 98 ;-)
What I do find annoying is when "politics" sneaks onto this board. When I see such I usually post something so outrageous to flush it to the "test" board.
In short "stay away from the TEST board".

Politics brings out the worst in people. I've read a number of things that suggest that we usually react to political statements from a different part of the brain, a part that logic and persuasion do not reach.
If I say "UP" and you say "DOWN" when we are looking at the same thing, there isn't much room for anything but an argument- a pointless one at that.

You may be right. I didn't give it much of a chance. Perhaps you do have to be there a while to "get it". That said, since I have limited time these days to spend on any board, I will confine my visits to this one where I know who "the usual suspects" are.

It's like following a soap opera. You can view the banter on a certain day, go on vacation for a couple of months, come back and feel like you haven't missed anything. I have posted there (ten or fewer), lately about TSLA.

I thoroughly enjoy the test board. It's like street fighting over there. And, I was born to street fight.

The test board certainly has its characters, just like this board. Lots of name calling, insults, and back and forth. Endless personal attacks that have nothing to do with the OP. Defend Chambers, attack Chambers. Franklin in the hot seat, dark ages are back, who should start. Lots of topics that have been rehashed a zillion times and always end up with childish nonsense.
Sometimes it is very informative, other times maddening.
Some test board posters are best left ignored. Others are very good.

Problem with the test board is that few people engage and so it is dominated by the loudest, just like modern politics. The rational get intimidated or discouraged by the brash. And that is why our country is where it is.

Never been to the test board myself but have seen that itchy trigger finger at work here. Doesn't take much at all. A mere suggestion that climate change may not be man made is more than enough!
