I know its been said before

But football in the spring might not be a bad option
I missed the scientific data explaining how things will certainly be better in the spring rather than this fall. I know the IHME models used by the White House Task Force to guide us through this whole $hitshow had this virus pretty much gone by June 1(2020 not 2021).

Please provide link to your "spring is going to be better than fall" data. Thanks.

The thing that's never addressed with a spring season is when do you have a reset? Do they play March, April, May then September, etc with the normal season? Too soon.

I'm not sure if it's too soon to play football this fall but I don't understand playing in the spring. How do you balance that with spring practice, early enrollees, players preparing for the NFL draft, recruiting, etc?

It would be an awesome novelty. Start the season in early February and it would finish in late May. The number of bowl games would need to be cut back. Cold games first and warm games last. Imagine the tailgate theme possibilities. Valentine's Day. St. Patrick's Day. Easter.

On the flip side, parking at PSU would be a nightmare. The grass lots would likely be closed since they'd be churned into mud during the spring thaw.

There’s no scientific data explaining anything with certainty. I think the idea at this point is that Fall is looking less and less like a viable option, so maybe we should plan for possible Spring ball as an alternative IF things get more under control by then. It would have to be further evaluated as the time approaches, just as is happening with the normal season right now.

I have mixed feelings on the notion of Spring football, but I can understand the desire to avoid going an entire school year with no football at all if that can be achieved.

I have no idea how that would be possible. As someone else said, today the season starts in August and ends in December (OK, January). That is five months. So you start in March (good luck playing in Feb). and finish in July. You then start camp up for the next season a couple of weeks later? Even if you limit the season to three months, your still looking at only having a couple of months off.

Football in February would suck.

If they play in the spring they'll have to do it without star senior players who will have moved on to the NFL.

Start practice in January/Feb. Games in March, April and May. The season is basically from September till the end of november. Then a month off until bowl games. Don't take the month off and play the bowls in June.

I for one think it is a fantastic idea. I would love it.

All of this is predicated on there being vaccine and I hope we will be there by then. There is a lot of talk of the results of the vaccines being very good so far. Specifically the Astrazenica and Pfizer vaccines.

I think they need to look more at playing the games with limited or no fans as opposed to spring ball.

but why? Why not just wait till spring? It's sports, in the grand scheme of things, who cares.

Because it’s a business, not just a sport. Also because it would throw off the sport for the next few years in terms of scholarships, incoming classes, funding other sports, etc. It would be a clusterf**k.

Here's an idea for the Spring. How about we all show up and support the kids who play Spring sports instead of moving Football? Go to a golf match instead of hacking and whacking in your own weekly game. Watch a few baseball games. Fill Panzer to capacity to watch men's and women's lacrosse. Hell, even tailgate. Meet some of the players and their families at the post game tailgates.

It's unfortunate that Fall sports is probably going to be shut down. But football is not the only game in town.

I agree with the sentiment but any possible move of the football season would be for $$$. A full house for lacrosse would be awesome but that won't pay the bills.

college football is sports like Walmart is into helping the poor.

Wait about a month and a half and then take a drive down College Avenue. Ask the surviving small businesses if college football is sport or business. Sandy Barbor probably wouldn't tell you the truth but she knows because she is now cutting budgets like there is no tomorrow.

For Penn State, do you really think a state-chartered school in Pennslytucky would end up being one of the largest in the nation and ranked in the top 50 without sports?

Agreed. Lacrosse isn't going to pack in 106,000 with people willing to pay $1,000 for a hotel room, $500 to park and $100 a ticket. Let alone $100 on t-shirts and another $100 on food. There is also the logistics:
  • two seasons in one calender year?
  • remember they couldn't host hockey in the stadium because it wasn't winterized, how much would that cost?
  • Dual-use stadiums
  • Parking in March in the cow pasture? Good luck with that.
  • TV rights? Conflicts with other NCAA licensed products (March Madness)
  • Eligibility questions for players.
  • etc. etc. etc.

If it's about the money and season ticket holders are so concerned about the future of the program, there is absolutely nothing stopping them from contributing the amount they spend on tickets, food, etc.

Maybe the AD could shed some of the fat from her bloated budget without sacrificing the kids.

I mean, "We are...Penn State" right?
Or they could just play the season.

Cut? I doubt she has even the first clue...Barron either.
