I Love The Handling of 197 (And Why You Should, Too!)

I apologize. I don't truly mean to dogmatically purvey my opinion, just thought it was a catchy title.

Anyways, it hit me last night why I think the way 197 has been handled thus far is a good thing. I think we can all pretty much agree that Shak is the guy. However, Cassar has earned the right to compete and deserves his chance to make his case. Now while some might say that you are taking chances away from "the guy" I see that it is reducing the mileage on 2 capable wrestlers, plus you are only giving half the conference a chance to get their hands on them before B1G's.

I get it as well. Shak seems to have earned the spot and has looked like the second coming of Ed Ruth as of late. Cassar has a rare quickness for the weight class and looks like a guy that can certainly compete for a National title in the future as well. First world problems, but both of these young men are deserving and have earned opportunity. Hate to see either transfer but certainly would not hate on a wrestler for wanting the opportunity to be the number one guy. Too bad NCAA isn't like NAIA where both could represent at the dance.

I think it was Lemonpie who was making the case for Cassar at 285.

So how would a 225 lb Cassar do at 285. A mini Snyder or undersized fat man.

At a minimum, this seems to be motivating both guys to be at their best. Hard to complain about that. Bottom line, I trust the coaches and whatever they ultimately decide.

Agreed! I saw someone call this "tomfoolery" or something to that effect. I just don't agree with that point of view at all.

I just put him on ignore. Please don't be a proxy for him and tell us what he said. :)
I have never met anyone cooler hitting the ignore button than yourself. You are an animal, have everyone on pins and needles now at your mercy. Lmao.

I haven't personally met anyone who disagrees with the split of time, and largely for the reasons you describe. In fact, it's painfully obvious these two would stand on the same spot on the podium or maybe one placement away...and its not remotely possible to determine which one is which. What we could expect, however, is a significant difference in bonus.

I think that bonus potential was a factor the coaches but not THE factor. I think we win the national championship with either of them.

That is, until yesterday's terribly unfortunate injury to Jason. I think an unexpected and unrelated consequence is it just put the premium on the bonus potential.

I would love to see Cassar at 285. He would have such an advantage. He's already one of the more athletic 197s. Obviously not the time for that move, but I'd love for him to challenge Nick next year. Wouldn't be great for 197 depth, but just something I'm personally interested in seeing.
