I study nuclear science

Man I don’t know how I’ve never heard this song before but I love it. It fits the moment perfectly and has some killer harmonica riffs. Well played 👌
Unless you were born between 1960 and 1970ish you would not have. Text book one-hit wonders ...

Really ages some of us. I presumed that EVERYBODY had heard that song. And yes, I was born between 1960 and 1970.

1982 here. Think I first heard it in the 80s movie Summer School.

It is one of the most misinterpreted songs of the 80s, perhaps second only to ‘Every Breath You Take’ by the Police. ‘The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades’ was written at the height of the Cold War when many people were generally worried about a nuclear war. The MacDonalds were a bit too subtle with their songwriting. A nuclear science student reaping great financial rewards due to the arms race while focusing on how much beer they could buy on fifty thou a year was meant to be a satire of the early 80s in America. Did you have to wear shades because your future was so bright, or because the future might be lit up with nuclear blasts?

I encourage you to dig up some other albums by Timbuk 3. They had a unique sound and a very intricate, folk inspired approach to lyrics that went unnoticed under the experimental 80s studio technology.

This morning I re-watched last night's bouts, read a few posts, then headed out to the Giant. I was already feeling pretty mellow. Turned on the sound, and what song played? Hint: see thread title
Yep, I kid you not. So I pulled out my shades and cruised up 15 with a big smile on my face.

Q: When was the last time a team lost the title and still walked away feeling like they smashed the other guy's face into the mat?

What’s next? “Born in the USA” by Mr. Bossypants doesn’t celebrate “might makes right”? :)
