I think IMG is not fair towards recruiting, and just bad for CFB in general. There maybe some positives, but I think the negatives out way any positives.
Will start with recruiting and the obvious. Because IMG is in Florida it gives Southern and other Florida schools and advantage (which they certainly dont need) in recruiting, because they are based in Florida, I just dont think that is right and always necesarilly fair towards recruiting. Now this is not true for all of them but it definitely plays a big part a part in helping the Florida and Southern Scools. Most, but not all these days, especially anymore, the recruits generally come from a certain proximity not too ridiculously far away from home. Now I know there is some exceptions to the rule, so please dont jump down my throat.
I'll give you three examples. This is based on if IMG did ot exsist. Lets say you had three big blue chip players from all over. One was from the mid west around Kansas. The other grew up somewhere in PA. The last somewhere in California. Now the kid in Kansas would probably be favoring Oklahoma, Nebraska, and maybe some other schools. The PA kid would probably be favoring PSU, Pitt and maybe some other relatively close schools. The kid in California, depending where they live in Cali, would probably be favoring some schools in California. You get the picture. And plus its one of the things, that make College Football great. The fact that there truly representing the best of there area. Now IMG to whatever degree is taking that away. And giving the south a huge advantage.
Just think if IMG was about 10 miles from State College. Or Ann Arbor. Athens, GA. etc.... How o you think people would like that scenario?
