Not sure if anyone posted yet, but I see they now blocked off one Northbound and Southbound lane for about a 6 mile stretch between Altoona and Tyrone for construction. Part of the major construction project announced earlier this month for 99. So they'll be fixing or replacing certain sections of 99, and this is a long term project. The whole project from turnpike north, not to be completed until November 2018
I know when then had construction on 99 around Altoona this summer, it wasn't uncommon to see traffic backed up for miles.
One thing I did notice today, they paved over all the rumble strips on the berms along the construction area. Not sure if they are going to try to make the berm and extra driving lane or not. Even so, with reduced construction speed zones, its probably going to be very slow moving.
So if your going this way on game day, I'd pretty much bet there's going to be a major backup at Altoona before the game going north, and around Tyrone after going south. I wouldn't be surprised to easily see over an hour delay. Probably really bad when we play Pitt.
And if there's an accident, yikes.
