If Logan Stiebler had moved up one weight class each successive year, and had won each year by pushing down the actual All Americans by one place, then he would have bragging rights over at least the following wrestlers who either have been NCAA Finalists or have been NCAA top-3 in a weight class and year that contained Logan Stiebler:

Wrestler (# of Finals vs. Stiebler; # of years at Stiebler's weight)

Tony Ramos (1 year: 2012)
Devin Carter (1 year: 2012)
Tyler Graff (1 year: 2013)
Mitchell Port (1 year: 2013)
Josh Kindig (1 year: 2014)
David Habat (1 year: 2014)
Brian RealButo (1 year: 2015)

In reality, Logan Stiebler has won in only 2 weight classes (twice each), and he has bragging rights over at least the following wrestlers who either have been NCAA Finalists or have been NCAA top-3 in a weight class and year that contained Logan Stiebler:

Wrestler (# of Finals vs. Stiebler; # of years at Stiebler's weight)

Tyler Graff (1 year: 2013)

The above is one example situation that might indicate that the 4-weight-classes nature of Dake's record is impressive above and beyond merely winning 4 titles.

This year he was other worldly.

In all honestly, I thought Alex Dieringer was the more dominant wrestler this year overall and in the NCAA Tournament. Didn't even notice - who was awarded Most Dominant Wrestler for the NCAA Tournament? Probably went to LS because it was his 4th title, but it isn't supposed to be a career title and if it didn't go to AD, it should have IMO.

Most Dominant is not based upon polling. It's a straight-forward calculation based upon each wrestler's record: +/-3 points for regular decisions, +/- 4 MD, +/- 5 TF, +/- 6 pins. Divide the sum by # matches.

Here are the standings before nationals started. Stieber was far enough ahead to win the award as long as he won the title.

1 Stieber 5.00
2 Gwiazdowski 4.64
3 Dieringer 4.60
4 Martinez 4.38
5 Port 4.32

Good point, Ironman. For example, if Stiebler would have jumped one weight class per year, he would have missed Zain Retherford's cohort of 141-pound freshmen (including redshirt freshmen)--i.e., one set of new people. But, he would have gained contact with *four* sets of new people that season, namely the 149-pound freshmen, 149-pound sophomores, 149-pound juniors and 149-pound seniors of the 2013-2014 year.

I'm bumping this thread because of something that Cowbell wrote in a current thread.

Good to see Bushwoord CC represented past (this thread) and present (other threads)
