If we can’t beat Ohio State

If we can’t beat Ohio State this year I honestly don’t think it’s ever going to happen again.

They lost 14 players to the draft including their starting QB. Their QB room is pretty weak in my opinion not really impressed with Julian Sayin.

Penn State returns Drew Allar, Singleton, and Kaytron. Offensive line is in good shape and tight end room is probably best in the country. I think the WR room will be significantly better this year. Jim Knowles is an upgrade over Tom Allen.

Yes I know Ohio State recruits really well and they got a few decent transfers but if we can’t beat them this year it’s not happening anytime soon. This should be the best Penn State team we’ve had since we beat Wisconsin for conference title (only if Barkley and Mcsorely had an offensive line when they played here).

It’s May.— Relax, take a vacation, go fishing, go golfing. Come back in August.

C’mon Rip. Not saying I disagree with your point, but can’t we play nice.
It’s spring. The nice weather has finally arrived and I think most PSU fans agree we should have a pretty good team to watch in the fall. Why climb up in another poster’s grill?
It’s the insults and petty name-calling that make this board intolerable much of the time. Don’t understand why typing “I disagree” and moving on is so difficult. A little civility can go a long way.
Thanks….and have a great summer!

The word never needs banned regardless of the opinion being stated. Gee, I 🤔 I was expressing my thought using the civility of our times. Shucks.

Agreed. It hasn't been done until it is done. Don't defeat yourself. Don't give in to negativity. But I get that this is a message board and posters are free to post their frustrations and doubts. I am looking forward to this season and letting it play out.

Bottom Line: If this OL keeps getting stuffed at the LOS during crucial situations, well have no chance. I get really tired at watching Larry Johnson celebrating on the sidelines year after year when he DL stops us inside the 5YL or even on the goal line. It has happened so many times.

It happened again last year; at the Shoe a few years back when we were up 28-10 and still lost; at the Beav a few years back when McSorley has 175 yards rushing, yet on the final 4th down we handed off to the RB and ran right at the best DL in the country for about a 2 yard loss. Pathetic!

This OL has to move the Buckeyes off the LOS like UM did for 3 years for us to have any chance to best them.

It’s wierd how obvious owning the line of scrimmage is to winning a lot of games, but this simple axiom frequently gets forgotten because it’s not sexy, I guess.

As an Eagles fan, I love watching Lane Johnson, Mailata, Dickerson and the rest piledrive the defense late in games on long punishing drives to put a game away. No better way to break a team. Having Saquon takes it to another level but they’ve been doing it with average backs as well

I’m an old guy. So based on my experience, the civility “of our times” is not very civil at all. It’s really not that difficult to debate points of view without using insults like idiot or moron or some of the stuff a couple of our more infamous posters come up with on a regular basis.
I’ve read a lot of your posts. You seem like a pretty intelligent person, probably a lot smarter than me. Just the kind of poster who can help raise the level of discussion around here.

At the shoe, later in the season when teams are jelling, still loaded with 4 and 5 stars. Possible yes. We will see.

Only idiotic in the sense that "ever" is a very long time. But seriously, do you think we'll beat them next year after Allar, Singleton, Allen, Dawkins, Rucci, Pena, Harris, DDS, etc are gone?

Right now, tOSU can't beat Michigan. Yet, in the playoff year, went on to win the Natty. So PSU could go 11-1 or even 10-2 (as tOSU did last year with losses to both Oregon and UM) and still win a Natty. What the playoffs have done, similar to the NBA and NHL, is minimize the value of the regular season. Hell, if our defender doesn't fall down and we throw a silly pick, we'd have played in the Natty game vs tOSU; two teams with two losses.

I said the post was an idiotic post. Most everyone here has made idiotic posts, including me. That does not make any of us idiots in my mind nor in fact. The ball bounces the way it does not always to the loaded team.

We can afford to lose to OSU just like this year and still make the playoffs. We don't want to because it just fuels the ineptitude and diminishes the team's confidence. I do think this team has a good shot of finally beating them but the game is in Columbus and we simply don't know how to win there. Hopefully this year we figure it out.

How is it an idiotic post. Some of you all lash out at people way too often it is insane and why I rarely post on here.

We haven’t beaten Ohio State since 2016 and we’ve had some pretty good teams. I was just saying we’re returning a lot of key players and we have some good depth in a lot of places that we haven’t had in a long time. If we’re not going to win this year I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Far from being negative I actually expect an undefeated season or 1 loss.

He is not beating Ohio State, or Oregon this year. It isn't happening. All evidence says the team is taking a step back. We were not competitive with Oregon. The game was over in the first half. Anyone that says anything else is in denial. Ohio State played out like it always does and almost certainly will this year. They did upgrade their coordinator and will very likely improve on D. The offense will be fine. For the record, the 2016 offensive line was the best of the Franklin era, the lack of talent at QB was the problem.

I think there is just a lot of fatigue among everyone...the team, Franklin, the fans when it comes to OSU and rhe mounting losses to them. Just my opinion. And guess what...they lost to them last year and still made it to the B1G Championship Game and the playoffs. And with the 18 team league rhey won't play them every year. Michigan had a similar lousy record vs then until their run of success .

The problem here is that we have a similarly lousy record against any team that is good, it isn't just Ohio State as much as some wish it were. Furthermore, the root cause of that record is an old dog that won't learn new tricks.
