GM can "pledge" (aka posture) all they want. They don't want to be on the wrong side of the twitter mob. No one does.

The big car companies are essentially betting the farm on EVs.
Therefore, it will happen. As they move to electric, the car companies will be very receptive to stronger environmental standards on vehicles.

What I am saying with all the money the car companies are investing in EVs, big auto will not oppose and perhaps even welcome stricter environmental laws that would essentially mandate people purchase them.
They will be like how catalytic converters are today.
