"I'll announce right after the bowl game" = "I'm gone".

So Hamler said today that he will let us all know his decision right after the bowl game. IMO that pretty much equates to "Right after the bowl game I will declare for the NFL".

I see no reason to post-pone an announcement until after the bowl game, IF the announcement is "I'm staying". If you are staying, no reason to not just say it now... why not?

because his feelings are hurt and he does not like the news..... I'm sure if I had posted the opposite, and IMO Hamler's announcement indicated he was 'staying' another year, then his reply would have been all unicorns & rainbows.

More insight!

Or maybe it’s because we could like wait for Hamler to actually make his announcement, but that’s obviously not something that’s popular among a number of posters here.

People have to realize we are only going to have them here for 3 or 4 seasons anyway. Enjoy what we have while we have it, hope these kids get their education and degrees, and make something out of their lives after football. Success with honor and Penn State proud.

Ahhhhhhh. This thread was started because HAMLER went public today and stated that he'd make his choice public after the howl game. It was HAMLER who got this started. Had Hamler said anything different, then this thread would not have started. Hamler could have very easily answered the question with "I have not made up my mind, I will not even think ab out it until after the bowl". But he did not.

And no one is blaming him for leaving. I totally agree. When you recruit stud athletes, you are not going to keep them for 5 years. The days of 1986 when we had a bunch of 5th year Seniors on the team are long gone. That's why I'm against redshiritng most of these guys. They are only going to stay 3 or 4 years anyhow, so you might as well use them.

Kiber wants to act like he’s smarter than everyone. From past history we all know that’s not the case.

Really? Since when do you speak for him? Why not just make his announcement now...and why wait until after the bowl game? Maybe because it's his announcement to make and he can make it any damn way he chooses, that's why.

There's really no reason to not announce that he's leaving prior to the bowl game either. It makes no difference whatsoever. It's his decision and he can announce it when he wants to.

Is a good or bad bowl game likely to affect Hamler’s draft position significantly? Could he be waiting on that plus the naming of the new offensive coordinator?

Well, since "I'm staying" is really no news. Staying means that he is not changing his current situation. He could have simply followed the path of Menet & Fries, and released a simple tweet like they did.

Ohhhh. Touchy touchy. So the guy released a PUBLIC statement today and we can not state opinions on his PUBLIC statement. If we state opinion on his PUBLIC statement, then we are talking for him. Umm. OK.

Part 1 - doubtful. The guy has 2 years worth of film for NFL scouts to evaluate. 1 game does not make a difference.

Part 2 - could make a difference. If a new OC is named that has a track record of utilizing slot receivers in a big way, and having schemes to get ball into hands of slot WR, then maybe it causes Hamler to have 2nd thoughts.

Part 3- He could change his mind between now and then.

Thanks. I was thinking the new offensive coordinator could be a factor if there is any question about his draft position.

I'm not sure the OP is being faithful to what he said.

Here's how I've seen it reported "KJ Hamler has yet to make a decision about his NFL future. Whatever he decides will happen after the Cotton Bowl."

Ohhhh. Touchy touchy. So the guy released a PUBLIC statement today and we can not state opinions on his PUBLIC statement. If we state opinion on his PUBLIC statement, then we are talking for him. Umm. OK.

Really, declaring that his statement = "I'm gone." [quotes are yours] is an "opinion" according to you. You clearly aren't familiar with the correct usage of the term "opinion". Ignorant and an a-hole, how charming.

This thread died shortly into the OP. It's his decision. He can announce his intentions when he wants. Maybe he just wants another week to think about it before announcing. It's a big decision.

Everything I have read so far has talked about Hamler, TCF, and Toney...not too much mention of Wade and Brown.

Early on in his PSU tenure, James said he wants players to be in a position to earn their degrees in 3 years so that if it works out for them, they can complete their athletic and academic careers in that same time frame. He told us that we should expect the top tier players to be in a position to leave after 3 years. That has played out with a number of examples, and we as fans just need to expect it as the new norm. We certainly can assume Micah Parsons will leave after next season. Let's just hope he plays in 3 post-regular season games.

Hamler going is a good thing for him and for the program overall. Him playing in the bowl is the bonus for all involved, including us fans. Maybe he will split more time than usual, like Saquon did in the Fiesta a couple years ago. As for next season -- next high-impact player up. Better be recruiting and developing players well enough to support this approach!

We will see our guys play for just 3 years generally anyway.... some will play in years 1, 2, and 3; others in years 2, 3, and 4, and others in years 3, 4, and 5.
Some very good players will play in 4 seasons. Bonus!

And we can be happy for the pleasant surprises when top tier players stay beyond their 3 mandated post-HS years, ala Gesicki and Pat F. If Hamler stays, yay for us! Either way, yay for us that we got to see him play for the time we have.

And when you're the one making the announcement, you can do it before or after the bowl game.

If KJ decides to stay for 2020 that would be great since it sets us up for a super year.

If KJ decides to go the NFL then good for him. He gave us some great years and we wish him well. We can turn our attention to Dotson, George, Freiermuth, Lambert, and Washington.
