I'm not a fan of the "Jet Sweep", but why does this play work for other

I think it works about the same for everybody, you only notice it when it works for the other guys, and when it doesnt its just on to the next play. that said, I aint a fan of the play either as a play on a regular basis.

teams, but not PSU?

Penetration. Also there would be more success, (although limited in yds gained), if Polk, or whoever is running, would turn it up and take the inside crease instead of tryong to run wide.

I also think with the way we run the jet sweep, the runner's motion telegraphs when the ball will be snapped.

Beat me to it there Sluggo. Mostly due to I have spent large portions of the past 2 years also watching the Steelers call the Jet Sweep often to lead to nothing....

OL is critical to success. We have a problem where Polk has to run deep and then try to cut up field. Extra step favors defence.

Actually, if you followed for the season you would know it "worked" quite well for the most part. Because of our OL we probably ran it a few more times than we normally would, teams began to expect it more and more.

The jet sweep works best with zone read type offenses. If the defense cheats to cover the jet sweep, they're out of position to defend the zone read.

Of course, Penn State didn't run the zone read.

You are correct CDW

The timing on this play has always amazed me. It seems like a play prone to a snap hitting the sweeping runner.

Watch the jet sweep on the first drive yesterday. Hamilton runs right by the guy he should have blocked. There was room if he puts a body on the guy.

How often you run it. When you run it. How you execute it and how confidently you run it all matter towards the sucess of the jet sweep and anything else. Polk and Scott are and others are gonna hurt people with this in next season and beyond. The most important project this spring for the O will be putting Bates and Gonzalez in the right spots and a couple other newcomers as back ups ....getting Mahon and a couple others fit....bellies are good on OL...as long as the biceps and forearms are not bellies too....
