State of origin of Penn State's individual All-Americans under Cael Sanderson

Pennsylvania: 14
By district:
PIAA district 7: 4
PIAA district 3: 4
PIAA district 6: 2
PIAA district 4: 1
PIAA district 10: 1
Wyoming Seminary (prep): 1 (Beau Bartlett - born in CA, partly raised in AZ, went to school at Wyoming)
Malvern Prep: 1 (Michael Beard)

Elsewhere:
New Jersey: 5
California: 2
Minnesota: 2
Utah: 2
Arizona: 1
Indiana: 1
Iowa: 1
Maryland: 1
Michigan: 1
New York: 1
Ohio: 1
Texas: 1

Ohio at 1 seems low. On reflection, we really aren't relying much on Ohio kids. Of course, when the 1 is David friggin' Taylor....

Other random fact: 174 has been the single best weight class for PSU since Cael took over.

Justin Ortega wrestled there in 2010. Since 2011, every wrestler at 174 has won at least one national title (although Bo did it at 184-97, not 174). Ed Ruth, Matt Brown, Bo Nickal, Mark Hall, Carter Starocci. All in a row. Ridiculous.

Four D3 guys in the Cael era? I got:

1) Ed Ruth? Does he count as D3 or NJ?
2) James English

Who are the other two?

Ruth grew up in PA and started at Susky Township. That's good enough for me.

Bartlett is a unique case. He's moved around a good deal. But since he wrestled all 4 years (I believe) at Wyoming, I count him as PA.

These numbers don't seem at all accurate. DT was a 4x AA so Ohio is at least 4. Nico, Cenzo ,and Nolf all 4X AAs so D7 is at least 12 just off the top of my head. Molinaro 4x AA plus Lawson, plus Shayne is more than 3. I could go on but these numbers don't make any sense to me.

It's total number of individual AA wrestlers, not the total number of AA honors.

What about SVN? I think he’s from AZ but he’s a Blair product. How about 1/2 for AZ and 1/2 for NJ?

That's Bartlett. Van Ness is born/raised in NJ. His dad Rod wrestled for Rutgers.
All true, but thanks, guys, for pointing it out because I originally forgot to count Van Ness.

Penn State's (2010-present) All-Americans from the Soprano State are
Dan Vallimont, Frank Molinaro, Anthony Cassar, and Van Ness.

BTW, as I was compiling this, have to say, we've had decent luck with injuries (knocks on wood) so far under Cael, but I still can't believe the Alton twins combined for one All-American placement....

damn those injuries

This is asking for a lot of extra work, but how about reposting your list with the actual names of the guys you are counting. We can chip in by adding anyone that you may have inadvertently missed.

sure man. Not much work. I just have to copy and paste. It's gonna be hard on your eyes, though.

I believe I missed Jimmy Lawson originally. So that's 5 All-Americans for the Garden State.

Thanks for posting. That’s a pretty impressive record under one coaching staff that said they were going to do exactly what was accomplished.

You missed Ed Ruth’s 4th AA in 2014 ( 3rd NCAA title) Anyone else see any names overlooked?

Scary to think but the squads seem to be getting better and separating even more from the competition. The Taylor-Ruth 4yr run had some tight championship years vs. runner ups. Nolf-Nickel 4yr run had the Buckeyes one yr.. Starocci-Brooks had Iowa win in 21. But last two yrs have run always and suspect 2023/24 will be, too. The 2019/20 team is the one that was besieged with injuries so it hits the Nits, too.

I think it should be 'Shakur Rasheed - NY' in 2018.
Gotta give NY their one rep, so far....

That was a typo because J isn't too far from Y. Yeah, he's from somewhere on Long Island.

Seems we used to get more studs from NY years ago. Everyone remembers McCoy, but my personal favorite was Olean's Jeff Prescott. Prescott was MEAN! NASTY!

Ryder is on his way and hopefully Duke as well. 2 absolute studs from NY
