Am headed to Europe soon and would love to take advantage of the rising value of the dollar before I leave.

I suggest just stopping at an ATM while in Europe. Your bank then gives you the going rate and you get charged less money. Going to a US bank, they usually charge $8-$10 transaction fee where an ATM might not charge at all or only charges a couple of dollars.

When I went in August, the Credit Card

gave the best exchange rates. Plus, you don't have to pay a commission converting it back. Just get a couple of hundred euro at an ATM after arriving there, as the poster below suggests.

If you're a AAA member check with them because they used to be able to get good rates in exchange.

If you're planning to pretrade in expectation of a trip...

open up an FXCM account or extend your current brokerage account to FX.

you can trade there for fractions of a penny.

Then when you go to Europe just use the ATM machine aligned with your US bank (check online) or a cc.

Do not bother doing physical. You lose 5% to 10% and although the dollar is rising another 10% move would be significant for "soon"
