given we have a number of players who were injured and removed from the Iowa game, when do you think they would actually get medically evaluated? So an injury like PJ got likely goes to an ortho evaluation and MRI, which I assume that you have great service right in State College for all that. Would you expect all the injured players to get medical opinions by the end of the week? For any player who then is known to be gone for the year, is it reasonable that we would know worst case next early next week? It seems that the season ending injuries to Isaac, Beamon and Wormley came out pretty quickly. I would think the coaches are going to want to understand this as soon as possible, so they can start using whatever line up contingencies they need to implement. Have to think the coaches would want this sooner rather than later.

They knew by Sunday morning. We probably won't know till kickoff at Illinois, and then we won't know exactly what the injury was/is.

They would have them by the next day. If you tear your ACL they aren't wasting any time evaluating it.

Yep, when you tear your ACL the MD in the tent knows to about a 99% probability if it's torn. The MRI basically just confirms the initial diagnosis and adds information on any damage to the rest of the knee soft tissue. meniscus tears,.....

I wonder if they have to go to their PCP first, get a referral, and then wait 3 months for a specialist like the regular jagoff in society. Lulz
It's interesting you say that. My son's been injured a lot and you had Dr. Bradley in Pittsburgh who deals with athletes and it is handled. You get in, get treated and start working your way back. Make the mistake of talking to your normal orthopedic doc and you're treated the same as a 50 year old injured waiting on an elective surgery.

You nailed it.

When I tore ACL, the doc not only told me I did it prior to MRI, he made a very accurate guess as to the extent of the tear % wise. The MRI confirmed that and the extent of the tear. He nailed it and used the MRI to determine any other damage to surrounding ligaments, meniscus etc.

I’ve had both of my acl’s repaired. The first by Freddie Fu in 1989, who recently passed away. Back then it was cutting edge surgery. But now the expert surgeons of yesteryear are in tents at football games…..
;)

As someone said, every player has been diagnosed and has a time table or plan by sometime sunday. It is for them to know and for us to guess about until they step back on the field. The only time Franklin has ever informed the public about an injury is when it is season ending, otherwise expect very vague or non answers.

as the OP, I was really talking about the season ending variety. So if all are correct here, any player who is season ending is already known. Since that is the one time that JF actually indicates a player is out for injury, and we have NOT heard him say anyone is out, would you conclude that none of these players in fact are gone for the year? Obviously, any player who was out for the year would likely not be able to keep secret anyhow.

My Uncle had a schollie to Rutgers in 1952 tore and his knee in his last HS game. Back then, it wasn’t cutting edge surgery but rather chop block surgery.

Well, the ACL tear is pretty obvious. As are major broken bones. But many injuries aren’t so clear. Neck and spinal injuries, shoulder, soft tissue like groin and elbow injuries can take both serious evaluation and even time. Sometime swelling can hide a broken bone in x ray. And playing at away games means they often don’t get MRIs until they get home and often not until Monday. Ankles and wrists can be problematic. And sometimes the injury is borderline and guys try to play through it after a short rest/rehab only to discover it is more serious.

Well James hasn’t had a presser since they got back to state college and they did a complete exam of the players. He will meet the media tomorrow night after practice. See what he says then.

We need to figure out the exact question that Franklin would answer in a way that would actually be information.....

For example:

"Are there any of the players that left the Iowa game and didn't return that have been ruled out of playing versus Illinois"

or ?????????

Aubrey Snyder just posted a video on Twitter of reporters asking CJF about Trace's injury in 2018.. I expect the same response from him.

"Of the players that left the Iowa game and didn't return, which ones will be ruled out for the rest of the season"? Even if he does not answer it would come out similar to Journey's heart issue was out before JF answered.

Of the players injured in the Iowa game was anything noticeable , were any of the cheap shot variety, wrong shoes twisting on turf etc. Losing 5 guys in a game seems strange.
