So I got lucky and happened to stay at the Marriott where the team stayed. It was a blast and we got to see all the coaches and players. After the game, a lot of fans formed a line kind of and announced all the kids. It was great.

But one thing that stuck out to me was that every time I saw our AD, Barbour, nobody went up to her to talk. Crazy. She was almost like a lost kid. I saw her probably 4 times and not once did people talk to her.

I spoke to her at a home game this year. She was very polite, just as I expected her to be.

I know she gets maligned a lot here, but I thought she did a pretty nice job with the post game on-field interview. She comes across as a huge CJF fan which suits me just fine.

Yeah she had that 409 tweet f*ck up early in her time here, but assuming she can parlay this on-field success into some good fundraising success, she's been fine in my book.

This next year or two, her level of "success" will be directly measured in fundraising dollars, and at that point we'll really know what we have with her.

If she likes him so much, maybe she ought to put herself out there and defend his body of work. Call the other ADs, pressure the presidents to complain about Delany's corruption.

I would not be surprised if that's happening right now. The concept of a conference commissioner dissing publically and on national media his own conference champion--before the game was even played--is something I'll bet the rest of the conference is none too happy with. It really boggles the mind.

Wow!!! That's totally strange and I would never expect that about an AD. There definitely has to be more to the story as to why everyone was ignoring her. One would have to assume that she is not very well liked, from what you've observed.

This is a little disappointing to hear....but thanks for sharing this info.

Interesting. I've approached her a few times, and she is very receptive and will engage in a conversation. Publicly, she has been fine except for her '409' brain fart.
I get the sense that she would like to honor JVP and be able to refer back to his legacy and foundation. Maybe not, but in the brief chats I've had with her and mentioned that, she chimes in as we would hope she would. I am never sure if the facade matches the depth in a public person. Her public persona comes across pretty well.

I had the same feelings about Franklin, too - was he real or was he very good at saying what he thinks people want to hear? I've come around to thinking he is about as sincere as a major program coach can be while still gaining 'body of work' traction. This is his 6th year as a HC - over time, he will continue to get better at all aspects of what being a HC at a top tier program entails. But I believe he speaks sincerely from the heart.

I would be completely shocked if anything like that was happening. If we've learned anything over the years it's that the Penn St administration will never stand up for the school.

The 'little 8' part of the conference has such Stockholm syndrome over the years that they appear totally ok with a conference focused only on Michigan and Ohio St. If Wisky had won maybe there would have been a little behind the scenes grumbling but I don't expect to see 1 other big ten school upset about it after Penn St won.

After all, PSU is going to the Rose Bowl which they see as the ultimate prize each year.

She's a dumbshit

:)

(and a documented "fail")

From what we've learned, the rest of the conference is only OSU and Michigan. They seem quite pleased with the way matters are handled. The rest of the conference has either accepted the fate or also realizes it is futile to argue.

She doesn't get enough credit. For those who may doubt her ability. You tube Penn State " the journey" as the players are walking into the tunnel after the Michigan loss. She's there for each player and SaSa is looking down and dejected. Sounds corny but she takes on the perfect role of mother and tells him quite simply. " Head Up" .

I've become a fan of hers. There isn't a tv or microphone built that she doesn't like, but that is the new world. She and CJF really get along and CJF has complimented her countless times. PSU athletics is doing really great right now....

I can separate the OG BOT from other administration people. We know the former won't stand up. Barbour? She has on occasion. I'm not saying she's perfect. But she's not the problem either.

Remember, she's not the real problem. The old guard BOT is. At worst, she's a symptom.

But seriously, I have nothing against her. She seems to have handled things as well as could be expected in most cases.

She has obviously supported James Franklin, who appreciates it.

Allow me to revise/extend my point?

I am not blaming Barbour exclusively. ALL blame for our predicament belongs with the BoT. IMO, Barron deserves more blame than Barbour, because he treats Delany's corruption like he treats the Freeh report. He thinks if he doesn't *see* malfeasance, he has no responsibility for it.

ETA-- as far as SB goes, I just hope she's doing right by us.

I don't have any big problem with Barbour other than I'm not sure how committed she is to what she says sometimes (see hockey helmets and michigan mom complaint). I agree the real problem is higher up.

I know we're all supposed to just freaking wallow in negativity about everyone and everything, but I have yet to see anything about what she's done that warrants all the negativity some here direct at her. If she works well with CJF and he likes her, that's good enough for me.

Stockholm Syndrome is exactly right. I've thought that a lot and posted it a few times. Most of the members of this conference have been bludgeoned for so long, that it seems like they've given up.

It just seems to fit. There was even a post by a fan of another big ten school here on Saturday that was responding to Delany's statements and they said basically- 'that's just how it is for any school not named Ohio St'.

It's not just that they've been bludgeoned with the attitude for so long but that they actually defend those actions and attack Penn State (and sometimes Nebraska) fans for questioning it as if we are in the wrong. Stockholm syndrome where the victim identifies with and supports the hostage taker just seemed to fit. ;)

I won't go so far as to call her a dumbshit. Her financial performance at Cal is worrisome. Her reaction to the "409" stickers on the Hockey team's helmet and politically correct tweet was ridiculous. I think that most fans aren't embracing her because they still haven't gotten over the way JVP was treated and she hasn't taken a stand. She probably can't if she wants to keep her job but the fans don't care about that.

What did Delaney say?

I can only say that I've had a couple of conversations with her and she's always been nice, funny, and receptive. I'm a fan actually.
You bring up Beth Mowins or Sandy Barbour's names up here and it's like Pavlov's dogs getting thrown a raw steak

Said it before......

The easiest $1,000,000 job in the history of ever

I don't know if I've ever seen more than a VERY small handful of PSU fans even mention ANYTHING about the roles and responsibilities of a.....you know.... AD
Let alone expect her to execute them competently.

Its a Brave New World

That 409 twitter gaffe is something that still bothers me - not just because she responded to a random tweet as if it were gospel, but because it was a Michigan alum, and she does not even take time to respond to PSU alums.

I was told, "I am sorry, that's way above my pay grade."

The quid pro quo is giving up your stones; they keep them in a bucket. I don't know when they give them back.

So you're the culprit. Duck! Art and Barry have a bucket of rotten tomatoes they're getting ready to chuck at you.

If you taught Sandy Baby "business math":

A - You wrong. You didn't teach her shit......maybe she polished a seat in your class.....but you didn't teach her shit

And

B - You should be ashamed of your effort

(Actually, if Sandy Baby "learned" at the right hand of Sluggo, that explains a lot :). )
