And yet Cornell gets a team point deducted from them for unsportsmanlike conduct. Sometimes life just isn't fair.

Terry Brands acting like a total douche bag during the 174-lb match was far worse than Evans, IMO. Running out on the mat right next to the wrestlers, jumping up and down, and calling 2 points after the Evans TD? Total lack of control, and rather classless.

Was thatEvans after the 165 lbs match getting in the way of the Cornell guy? What a pos.

Oh, you mean the Cornell guy that was just got two stall calls against him in 35 seconds running away from Nick Moore and then victoriously shushed the crowd? No, it was Alex Meyer who was standing behind the Iowa bench and a rope. Sure, Alex could have scooched but he is definitely not a POS.

Hate? Maybe a little. Jealousy? Don't kid yourself.

BTW, the Evans push really didn't bother me much; wasn't that big a deal. And I didn't see what happened after the 165-lb match, so can't comment there.

But are you really going to tell us that Terry Brands did not behave like a douche bag in the 174-lb match? Seriously?

Already cant wait for Brown to physically dominate Evans again n walk him around the mat like a child

I want to like Evans because he is a PA boy but wow he makes it hard. He is not a very classy guy. These Iowa fans posting in this thread are obviously feeling good again. I am happy for you guys, you have been on Suicide watch the last few years....I have a feeling you may not be as giddy during the next season.

Back to Evans, I actually can handle a little chippy attitude with some extra physicality in big matches, but Evans acts like a clown against lesser competition...That shows his character not showmanship. To be fair, That cornel kid who shushed the Iowa Crowd is heading in the Evans direction and I don't blame the Iowa kid cutting him off after his display on the Mat after the Match.

Doesn't Evans have 3 wins on Brown? Brown physically pushes everyone around the mat. I mean look at the guy, he is a Moose. Brown just doesn't always out wrestle everyone

lol.. Evans is tough as nails and never outwrestles anybody..I have watched him wrestle a lot and never see him get an offensive takedown on equal competition. (Countershots after your opponent was the aggressor and shoots is not a true offense takedown) The only shot I remember evans taking against brown was the one he was pancaked to his back. Brown gives up a lot of scramble takedowns and countershot takedowns because he is too aggressive at times with his shots. Brown will shoot, Evans does not
Brown has beaten Evans 4 times all by at least 2 or more points 7-3, 4-1, 6-3, and the latest 2-0
Evans has won 3 all by only 1 point 4-3, 3-2, 5-4

Brown is clearly better--Albeit not by much

Mammy

"Jealous that we've won 4 in a row or jealous that brown beats Evans more often then not?"

I tried to give Evans the benefit of the doubt on the Hawk forum sighting that Evans did indeed look a bit under the weather when he wrestled Brown and added that regardless I believe Brown wins that matchup more often than not. Shockingly they came back with where did you go to school type comments that Evans and Brown were 3 & 3 prior to that match!

HMMMMM let me think.....oh yea, I did say "I believe" and last time I checked 4 wins to 3 is always most of the time!

I can't really argue with much. I love me some Matt Brown. He is an OX. But I have to disagree with Evans not getting takedowns on top talent. He has taken down Kokesh, Storley, Brown etc several times. Kokesh is the most offensive guy of the bunch but one can argue that most all of the matches between these guys have been low scoring brawls. I've really enjoyed watching 174 in the big ten for awhile now. .

Especially when Jay Borchel was a senior. But most of you on here wouldn't remember him. That was before you became hard core fans of the sport... ;)

Borschel ... isn't he the guy who became famous for taking down Mack Lewnes, the year before Ed Ruth did it routinely?

I saw that, in fact I rewound so I could see it again.... even though the Cornell guy was a bit over exuberant, a classless act on the Iowa guy trying to get in his way. Don't think it was Evans though...

Sour grapes. You didn't even compete today in the duals. I'm not defending Evans in anyway, but the guy is a gamer. You guys just love to criticize the slightest thing he does. You guys remind me of the pansies who bitch about the bean dip at an orgy. Get over it. There was some great wrestling today. Just appreciate it, and for the love of God, stop reminding us about next year. You don't think everyone in the country already knows it already?

Mr. DirkTang, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Oh.....Thanks for reminding us about next year Dirk!!

I guess if so many would not harp on that having been brought up it would not have been posted so much. Think about that for a minute. Most posters on these forums are notorius for bringing up anything that get a rise from the competition......kinda like bringing up how we just learned about wrestling 5 years ago!

And by the way. Is that the same Jay Borchel that true freshman Quentin Wright took outi n the semis of the Big Ten Tournament back in 2009???

I sure do remember that. I never said anything about you be relevant within the last 5 years, you did. You must have quite the complex. I was a big fan of Quinton Wright btw. Wish more guys in the upper weights wrestled like him. One of a kind IMO.

Again, I don't have a big issue with Evans. I think he enjoys being the "bad guy" that opposing fans target. Rather, my issue is with the childish and classless antics of Terry Brands, a grown man who during that Cornell dual behaved like .... a douche bag.

It would bother me if your coaches did that too. Everyone has their own opinion, and I can respect that. I wouldn't trade the Brands brothers for anyone. You seem like a good dude Bruce.

So glad Coach Cael would never act like Terry Brands, that guy is a first class Loser as a person, great coach and wrestler, not a great guy though.

Evans is the kind of athlete that you love if he is on your team, and you hate if he isn't.

The general hate of Iowa is due to all the success. Like any sport.

Because Terry Brands is excitable and passionate, he is a loser as a person? Ok bruh.

Lol. Whatever dude. Guy is a proven winner. I'm sure you can come up with plenty of reasons why he isn't. What happens in the heat of the moment is just what it is. What do you think of Koll and Crew today?

I shouldn't have taken it that far, but I just prefer my coach not act like a Tool like Terry has, I'll leave it at that Bruh...

Get off your high horse. Your team didn't even compete today. Pretty easy to pick apart our team while you didn't even participate.

No, YOU get off your high horse. Coming over here and telling people what to say?

And as if Penn State's non-participation in Rob Koll's pipe dream had anything whatsoever to do with how Terry Brands acted.

Give Iowa a little bit of a break guys. They are feeling better about themselves now which takes away the sting of their awesome performance last couple of years at the NCAA's. We will have to see if they have peaked too early again this year.

Calm down Jeffy. It's a message board. I'll post wherever I want and follow the rules. I just think you guys are quick to point out things, and call individuals "classless". Quite hypocritical don't you think?

Good Lord, can this thread be anymore juvenile. First, I am very proud of our last four/five years but we didn't have a whole lot to hang our hat on before this era, we would be happy to be in the top five and get one or two guys to the finals. We should reserve our bragging until we get to 8 in a row, as if that's EVER going to happen again.

Second, Mike Evans, am I a fan? Nope. Is he tough? Yep. Him and Brown have always been a couple of points difference either way. I detest Evans antics but if others like them that is their character flaw.

Third. I have seen a lot of coaches recently that probably should have had team points taken away, OkState comes to mind. The Brands brothers are a little over the top but it's always been their personalities. Coaches on the mat for anything should be -1 in my opinion.

Are we not all wrestling fans with legitimate differences? WE ARE!!

I disagree, I imagine there are some Iowa fans who try to be objective that can separate rooting for him to win because he is on your team and thinking his shove of the cornel wrestler out of bounds and into a camera lady is a thing to "love"

I always find it entertaining that this board, which can bring such great wrestling knowledge and history to a discussion, can get so wrapped around the axle when we get into discussing coaches personalities and mat-side antics. It is a discussion that no one ever wins. If Cael did hand stands at mat-side every time a Penn State wrestler won a match, we (myself included) would find some way to justify and explain it. Brands is Brands; whether you like his antics or not, he knows how to coach. He wasn't too popular with Iowa fans these last two years (heck one Iowa poster wanted to replace him with David Taylor), but winning has a way making all things right in Hawkeye land and there is nothing wrong with that. So kudos to Brands if he wins it all this year; many of us thought it would be either Minnesota or Ohio State or Penn State (before the red shirt decisions). If Brands doesn't win it all this year, David Taylor may get some phone calls. Looking forward to the B1G and national tournaments; I'm sure they will be fertile grounds for more coach discussions! WE ARE...

Wow...great contribution. Just about as good as "let me know when Lions winning national titles actually spans decades".
