Iran executes wrestler Navid Afkari

So sad. Iranian government will rot in hell someday, hopefully soon.

Lots of uproar and selective grandstanding because it involves a wrestler and it is in Iran.

The U.S. executes the 7th most people in the world, and it has historically been disproportionately directed against blacks and people of color and, until fairly recently, even used against juveniles and the mentally challenged. There have also been quite a few cases where state governments have executed innocent people—studies show it is roughly about 1 in 25 (144 people since 1973).

Furthermore, we confine thousands in solitary confinement, which is unquestionably a form of torture—"cruel and unusual punishment" which violates the Constitution.

While one can condemn what goes on elsewhere, focusing on what happens in one's own backyard is arguably where energy should be spent if you live in the US. If you are unfamiliar with the horrors of solitary confinement, I recommend this TED talk:

So the US is almost as bad as Iowa? :)

It's cleaned up. It's an interesting situation because Iran cannot be trusted and who knows what actually took place.

Thank you Hotshoe. When I started this thread I naively did not anticipate some of the responses it would generate. My apologies for providing a platform for some of those messages. May God bless all those in Iran who have to live under this state of terror, and my prayer is that freedom would come to them all.

No problem. Hell, I was wondering if anyone actually knew the whole story. Didn't think it would turn into that.

From your posting history, you are anything but naive. Imo, no need to apologize. What happened is on others, that took it in that direction, not you.

...and as far as the story, it is sad. Grateful and thankful every day to live in this great country.

Thank you, moderators. I’m so glad you don’t let this forum turn into HR!

(BTW, I’m not saying that guys such as DMM are bad people or posted intellectually or logically wrong things. It’s just that experience shows the cost/benefit of talking a lot of politics here is not good.)

If Iran were truly safer than Iowa, then they'd shoot him in the knee at 3 am.
