MSU is now 4-1 (2-0 BT). MSU should be favored in their next three games: Minnesota, Indiana, NW.

When we travel to MSU on November 4th they could well be 5-0 in BT and 7-1 overall (with an early loss to ND). We will be playing MSU away after Michigan and away game at OSU.

We will certainly earn our spurs after Michigan, OSU, MSU, and Championship Game with (potentially undefeated) Wisconsin.

If they were, they aren't any more. They just moved ahead of UM in the standings. The Minny game will say a lot about MSU. It's on the road at night the week after a big road win in Ann Arbor. Not a gimme.

MSU was +5 in the turnover battle and only put up 14 points. Yes, second half weather was pretty awful. I would be surprised if they are 7-1 when we meet.

Yes but it was a monsoon and MSU had the lead. All we needed to do was not turn it over ourselves and we would likely win. Tressel style.

Also the refs were pathetic and called a penalty on every MSU ensuing drive after each of our turnovers.

Also a combo of our offense just being medciocre right now and UM having a really good D.

PSU and OSU will probably beat us by a couple scores and MSU will challenge those teams next year when we return 18 starters.

Except Minny is pretty bad.

No, I don't think so. I would be shocked if they get through those next three games without at least one loss. Michigan was absolutely awful on offense yesterday. MSU will be a tough game for PSU, especially after OSU regardless of the outcome. However I don't think they pose a huge threat to win the division and I imagine they have 3-4 losses by the end of the year.

I don't know. Michigan has looked bad all year and they were ranked purely on reputation.

Michigan State would have lost that game if the Michigan receiver did not drop a pass right out of his hands with 30 seconds left

It's more of that Michigan is way overrated. Mich State barely beat Iowa and got blown out by Notre Dame.

What was the psu Iowa score?

Iowa and MSU do a good job of muddying games up and being able to hang with teams. Once conference play starts it’s a different beast.

Yes ND is better than us. We gifted them 21 points but have had zero turnovers in our last 2. MSUs young players weren’t quite ready for a prime time game vs ND.

MSU is much improved over last year (understatement on my part). I was impressed with their play last night...the matchup on 11/4 is going to be a good one! Good luck over these next few weeks.

After watching the btn show on PSU 2016 season, I don't think MSU will ever go under CJF's radar. I think our coaching staff despises them more than Tosu or SCum.

Beating Iowa at night at kinnick in prime time is different then barely beating them at home. They typically upset top 5 opponents in that scenario. We dominated them most of the night other than a few plays.

MSU is tough but not sure the QB will last the season. He is getting hammered!
He loves to run and put that head down. He got away with it last night even though he took a big shot to the head by #10, Bush.

Mich St. had a great game plan against Mich. their punt returner screwed up and changed the dynamics of the game otherwise they would have put 2 more td's on Mich. The heavy rain put the game in neutral .

Huge drop.....but that gets the ball to the 30 with 30 seconds left. No telling if UMich scores or not.

I don't think they're being overlooked, I just don't think they're being looked at yet. We have UM and OSU before them so no sense worrying about MSU at this point.

MSU did everything they could to give that game away. After the big FD, they run two QB sweeps and had one holding call to stop clock. Take a knee. Had to punt. Then a bad late hit on the sidelines and then a wide open receiver at the thirty who dropped the pass. All in the last 90 seconds.

There was nobody behind him. He likely runs to the 10 and then out of bounds.

The receiver was dead in his tracks with his back to the goal line and there was a defender maybe 5-6 yards away that was closing on the receiver. Unless there was a missed tackle, he doesn't get more than a couple yds after the catch.

There are no cupcakes this year in the Big ten, other than maybe Rutgers.

Everyone knew that a downpour was coming in the second half which made taking a lead into half critical. MSU moved the ball on UMs defense and had over 100 yards rushing first half.

Once the rain came, we sat on our lead while knowing the other team had to take more risk. Play tough defense, live to punt, and watch other team self destruct. Tressel is smiling somewhere.

Maybe by you but not the team or yours truly!

Last night set up perfect for Sparty.

- Michigan struggling on offense and forced to start backup
- MSU big rivalry game underdog
- Sloppy playing conditions.

A half competent QB gives Michigan a 10 pt win. MSU really only had 2 decent drives the whole game.

Credit D'Antonio for their D play but odds of duplicating that series of factors (especially the garbage QB play) to the same result is a long shot.

I've always been leery of the game @MSU for same reasons I was about the Iowa and NW games - winning on the road in college football is hard no matter the quality of opponent.....but I think PSU has the right frame of mind and won't be taking anyone lightly.

MSU was a better team than their record indicated in '16 and with the early successes this year they're building confidence they lacked last year. This was always going to be a tough game.

Exactly what I pointed out in another thread.

Michigan State played well yesterday, and the mistakes - both physical and mental (and a couple zebra WTHs) - seemed to even things out a bit. As someone else said, the rain neutralized an important segment of the game, but fortunately did not last all that long relatively. The timing of the dropped pass by Michigan was the most glaring physical mistake, and no one should count on such a mistake happening again.

As of now, MSU will likely be favored in their games before going into their two-game stretch in early November of PSU on the 4th and at Ohio State on the 11th.

The Penn State game comes at a great time for MSU. Regardless of outcome of those two games for PSU, the time is ripe for a bit of a mental letdown for us, following Michigan and Ohio State - two huge mentally and physically taxing games for us. Our confidence will be high for Michigan, and if we win that one, we will be even more mentally ready for Ohio State.

Upsets happen each week in college ball. Going unbeaten is an almost unrealistic expectation.

And then, whoever wins the East.... Wisconsin may be the most overlooked B1G team of all, and that plays heavily in their favor, especially assuming they make the title game (and when don't they make the B1G title game, it seems?!). Arguably their two toughest opponents remaining are Iowa and Michigan, back-to-back in mid Nov., both at home. Then again, upsets happen all the time. But an unbeaten and maybe underdog Wisconsin in the B1G title game, and their mindset after last year's loss.... beating them in that game will take an excellent game by an excellent team, because that is what they will bring. Just like last year.

Msu is the trap game that I am scared of no different than osu playing at Iowa a week after they play us. It will be a tough out for both teams. Dantonio will run every trick play he has against us to gain an edge. I don’t think msu will lose until they hit November. Then They have tough sledding. He had a good game plan against Michigan and I never thought they would lose after they had 14 points. Also when harbaugh ran the draw on one of their last drives I was convinced he wasn’t using all of his creativity which was pretty strange. The refs certainly helped Michigan especially that last holding call. They knew msu was just running out the clock .
