Israel today launched what it calls a "limited" ground offensive into Southern Lebanon. The Israelis' stated goal is to further diminish Hezbollah's ability to lob missiles into, or otherwise attack, the northern areas of Israel that abut the border with Lebanon. That's very understandable, but invading another country is no small development. Plenty of folks on this Board have been complaining loudly about the Biden Administration authorizing Ukraine to launch missile strikes and drones into Russia in order to bomb large Russian munitions caches. But this is, to my knowledge, the first thread discussing the Israeli incursion into Lebanon. I'm not even sure if there has been a thread focused on Israel launching a bomb to take out Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah was a bad guy, to be sure, but launching bombs into another sovereign country is no small development, either. Israel is clearly willing to engage in a wider regional war and sees that in its better interest. Time will tell if they are correct in that assessment.
