It's a new era.

I was driving through Tuscaloosa a few weeks ago. There was a man on the corner holding a sign that said "Unemployed bag man, will launder money for food".

And that gives us a great shot
See who's coming back next year....we're spending lots of money
Yeah, the NIL excuse is getting old. During one of OSU's playoff games, I saw a graphic that 9 out of 11 of OSU's defensive starters had been in the program for three to four years. Perhaps most if not all of those players were paid quite well, but OSU really didn't pay a lot of free agents like some other desperate programs do.

Also, there's a reason why the vast majority of PSU's players who could've left decided to return, so PSU is benefitting from NIL too.

Lame excuse. Every osu td yesterday started with a free agent. The qb and rb were both free agents. Osu also didn't need as many free agents since they were top 3 in talent to begin with. Osu signs 5* free agents out of high school

Where did I use NIL as an excuse? It is a fact of life. OSU players who would have gone to the NFL stayed for the pay. We are doing the same. I was merely pointing out that it now a fact of life and those who can't afford the pay to play reality will be left behind.

But...how is that different. College football have always been the haves and the have nots.
Playoff era champs:
Ohio State
Michigan
Georgia
Georgia
Alabama
LSU
Clemson
Alabama
Clemson
Ohio State

Only Clemson isn't Big Ten/SEC

Prior to that (going off memory so if I miss one my bad)
FSU
Bama
Bama
Auburn
Bama
Florida
LSU
Florida
Texas
USC
USC
LSU
Ohio State
Miami
Oklahoma
FSU
Tennessee
Nebraska/Michigan
Florida
Nebraska
Nebraska/Penn State (should be)
Florida
Bama

We basically have to go back to 1991 (more than 3 decades) for a outlier with Washington or 1990 with Colorado/Ga Tech then 1984 with BYU

This era is basically the best chance for an underdog to win--they at least get a shot

Too use an irritating over used phrase, “it is what it is”, to either jump on the NIL train or get left behind. Fans have a choice to either watch or opt out.

It will be interesting to see the over all TV ratings of the playoffs and Championship Game.

We are loaded with free agents, too. In fact, we better hope our free agent WRs are legit because otherwise we're in serious trouble.

NIL is becoming the catch-all excuse for programs that can't win because of shoddy coaching, poor execution/player development, or the simple fact that they're not as good as other teams.

Next thing you know, a kid falls off his bike and blames NIL.

Players make plays. Coaches put those players in position to make players. Money can help, but money doesn't guarantee shit. Ask Texas A&M.
