Its a shame Maurice Evans never transitioned to the NFL. Seemed to be a lock from my view, who ...

else from Penn State do you think would have had a nice NFL career but never panned out (No injuries on this list)

IIRC Evans got into trouble for Marijuana possession. I always wondered if he left early because he was in the dog house at PSU. Regardless, it was a bad decision for him to leave early.

Aaron Maybin is the first guy who comes to mind. He should have stayed another year before leaving but it's hard for anyone to turn down those 1st round $$$$$.

Andre Johnson is another one. 1st round pick who didn't stay in the league long at all.

Tony Sacca. What a talent he was. Imagine him in the hands of a modern offensive coordinator.

How about good old Quintis McDonald? Never panned out in college like expected, but still had a couple years in the NFL. Everyone saw him as a can't miss star.

Staying another year would not have helped Maybin. He maximized his money potential. Another year in college his draft status would have probably dropped as his weaknesses became more obvious. Also the potential for injury.

I disagree about Maybin, he was smart to come out when he did since he was drafted so early. No matter what he did, I don't think he was going to get drafted earlier than that.
That being said, when he declared, I thought it was a mistake, I didn't think anyone would take him that high (my beloved Bills unfortunately did). In the end, he made the right call, but he was always going to be limited by his size. He got a big paycheck, good for him.

Tony didn't endear himself to old school Joe Bugel from the start.

LINK: SI Vault - They said it

Joe Bugel, coach of the Phoenix Cardinals, after his rookie
quarterback, Tony Sacca, complained that NFL footballs slip out of
his hand: ''Well, if you can't throw the NFL ball, you might as well
quit, because that's the ball we use.''
. . .

Quintas McDonald had multiple knee injuries. IIRC, he was the #1 player in the country coming out of high school. He was a favorite of mine.

I think there was family pressure for Evans to get earning money. That was the rumor I hd heard.
