Is there anyone on the planet who thought he would play Augusta? The man used his sand wedge as a cane to get out of a bunker in Abu Dhabi before his WD. He couldn't sit upright at a press conference two weeks later at Riviera.

I look forward to his next press release telling us he won't play TPC Sawgrass. I'm sure Bob Harig will be the first one to break the huge news.

I don't think he could make a cut on the Champions Tour and he's only what, 41?

Of the tour guys around town (Bears Club, Lox, Old Palm, Tequesta, Medalist, Dye, MacArthur, etc.), lets just say he's well below average.

Tiger's Going To Augusta - But Only For The Champion's Dinner!

Hard to believe this is the 20th anniversary of his first Masters win.

And almost 9 years since his last Major.

Would be great for the game of golf to see him even somewhat competitive again but that seems to be more and more unlikely.

When Nike dropped making golf equitment the writing was on the wall. They would have never done that if they thought he had a decent shot at coming back.

I for one and I am assuming no one expected him to play. But FWIW, it is my understanding he is an automatic qualifer and as of this morning was still listed on the player sheet. Typical of the majors. He must officially withdraw to give his spot to the next alternate.

Wait ten years and then we'll all see how he really screwed up his back. He will have difficulty walking at age 51.

I may be wrong, but unlike the other majors, (and they always try and be unlike the other majors), I don't think the Masters does alternates.

So you see this as an injury/physical thing? Please.

Other than IllinoisLion, why all the animosity toward Tiger?

Do we need to see a press release/conference every time he doesn't play? We saw one for the Safeway, Turkish Open, Riviera, Honda, Bay Hill, Augusta. Just tell us when you're playing again. Seems like he needs the attention. As I said, everyone knew he had no shot at playing next week. Why is it even a story?

Yeah, he's been down for a while now; time to stop kicking the guy?
I don't get the hate. He screwed around on his wife. Fairly common I'd say. I can't hate him for that. I can't wait for Cletus to show up and make his proof- freeh steroid claims -- again. He can't play competitive golf. I guess he's done. I miss watching his exploits.

Maybe it's expected of him. I don't know. I wasn't expecting him to play. Hoping he'll get better and compete again is like hoping for justice in the JS shitstorm. After awhile, hope becomes a shrug.

There are no alternates at the Masters. The official invitation list is at 94 right now, pending the result of the Shell Houston Open. If an invitee wins in Houston, it'll stay at 94 with Tiger's absence dropping the player list to 93 (31 3's...how convenient). I think he made the announcement out of a courtesy to the folks in Augusta so they could put together the tee times and not leave them guessing if he was going to play or not. But because it's the Masters, he could have milked it until his listed tee time on Thursday before making his call.

As for the whole Tiger hoopla, I get the ire. He still moves the needle in the golf world, especially among casual fans. Whenever I run across people that know I work in the golf world, Tiger is often the first thing they ask about. But the longer this goes, the less news it's going to make. Can't really imagine he'll come back at TPC or the US Open. Those places are way too brutal for his ailing back. So who knows when it'll be. But it is definitely getting old that he and his team continue to downplay something that the most basic lay person can figure out. No pain in Dubai? Uh, yeah, sure. I think that's what bothers people and turns them against Tiger. Yes, he doesn't have to tell anyone anything but don't try to say it's not something that it is.

I, too, get weary of the "Tiger's not playing" headlines, as though it's a surprise anymore. They may as well announce that Arnold Palmer isn't playing, either.

The King. Arnie was loved until the day he died. What a wonderful, giving person.

You think cheating on his wife is the reason people dislike him?

Him being a dbag to his wife was only the tip of the iceberg.
