Who do you like this year, one of the big names or a relative unknown?

I'm not sure that any of the top rated players are really playing all that well at the moment, and I have no idea who I would pick as a favorite right now.

I would think DJ is the favorite. He won the Dell Match Play a few weeks ago with all the big dogs playing.

DJ is really playing well right now, he's gotta be the betting favorite. So he won't win it, but I have no clue who will.

The weather in Augusta is supposedly going to be pretty ugly on Thurs & Fri, so that should add to our viewing enjoyment!

Had hoped Tiger would have been able to play.....he must be pretty miserable missing out on the 20th anniversary of his first green jacket.

Good time to put Bushwood on ignore for a week.:)

For me, the tour isn't the same without him. I hope the greens are crazy fast but rain on TH and FRI won't help that, if that's what you're talking about. The greens are the only defense Augusta has against the ridiculous golf tech.

We had a bunch of rain on Tuesday and rain is again predicted for Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be nice, but with strong winds and much colder temperatures. Saturday and Sunday should be perfect. About 2 weeks ago we had temps in the low 20s and it killed all the azalea blossoms. Mostly just white azaleas in bloom now. We go down Berckmans Road a couple of times a week and there was not much color. For anyone coming down this week, they have made some changes to the traffic flow and it is best to follow the golf signs and not your GPS. Can't wait for Monday so I can leave my house.

Cliff Roberts is in hell so maybe he can get Satan to put the bloom back on the azaleas.

Masters week? Excellent. Have a cigar! :)

Here's some good news, at least we know this major is not run by the LPGA or USGA.

For those who like long odds I like Freddy Couples this week. Played very well last month on the Champions tour - back is feeling good - he loves Augusta.

Though it used to be run by the KKK.
Please give me one credible citation that says the Masters was ever run by the KKK. Not that they supported male, white only membership, which they did, but that they actually ran the tournament. I don't really care much about golf, or the Masters, but I do care about facts and I've heard that KKK allegation before. When I went to check it out, I could find no evidence. Perhaps you will provide it and I will be more knowledgeable in the future.

I was being facetious. I don't think the Masters was run by the KKK. I do think that there were likely Augusta members who belonged to the KKK. I don't think I've ever heard that the club was run by the KKK unless Cliff Roberts was in the KKK. I'd like to see a citation for that. Make no mistake about it. Cliff Roberts ran Augusta and the Masters.

Cliff Roberts reportedly said (Golf magazine, for one), "As long as I'm alive, golfers will be white, and caddies will be black (in the Masters)." He may or may not have said that. Lee Elder played the Masters prior to Roberts's death, so that took care of that (if he actually said it).

It's no secret that men of color were not welcome to play at Augusta. Lee Elder qualified by winning a tournament.

I do not think the statement was "literal" but it was figurative :)

OK. that's fair. The reason I asked was I heard that exact allegation about 15 years ago, but the guy was not being facetious. He told me he knew for sure the Klan ran it, but when I went to check it out I found nothing. There is no doubt racism was an issue at Augusta for many years, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.

I edited above and you may have missed it. If Cliff Roberts was in the KKK then it would follow that the KKK , in effect, ran Augusta because Roberts definitely ran Augusta from its inception (with co-founder Bobby Jones to some degree) until his death.

If there is credible evidence that Roberts was in the KKK, I will agree with your point. I checked briefly on line and could find none, but it may be out there.

I don't watch much baseball anymore.....but a couple of times last year I saw that fans were claiming pitchers were members of the KKK. In fact, there was one game where he must have belonged to four different chapters as there were 12 Ks lined up in a row!

You made me laugh ILLINOIS. :D

I don't really care either way. I'll watch some of it. I'll try to avoid Bushwood's loooooong- winded explanations of the obvious.

Lee Trevino used to put his golf shoes on sitting in his car rather than use the locker room. I don't think he cared for the place at all. Neither do I.

Cliff Roberts was a tyrant. Imagine this: He asked Bobby Jones not to come to the tournament during the Jones's later years in life. Roberts felt that the ALS that Jones suffered from made him look too grotesque for the TV audience. Jones and his family didn't like that a bit. Roberts was not invited to Bobby's funeral. Prick, to be nice.

I realize that he ruled Augusta with an iron fist. I know he took his own life on one of the greens at Augusta, so he certainly had his demons. I understand both his parents also committed suicide. I guess most of what drove the man went with him to his grave.

I am going with Spieth. He is playing well under the radar. A first and 2 second place finishes in his 3 Masters he knows and loves this place. Plus he is from Texas and used to playing in very windy conditions. Also throw in what is his name Rahm? The Spaniard playing very well and long off the tee. Grew up near where Seve did in Spain and infamous for bad windy weather.

Shot himself in the head on the par 3 course, I think. Hole in one.

Jordan hasn't been doing as well as expected, IMHO. Grandpa went to Austin, didn't go to Houston, but will be at Augusta. Look for Stephen the brother b-ball player at Brown to take a few shots at the Par 3 event Wed. with Jordan being his caddy. < Info as of about 48 hours ago direct. ;)

I'm going with Rickie Fowler. Intangibles and hasn't been doing too shabby of late.

Rahm seems to be the golf media pick.

My picks are posted above! :)
It's odd how our interests change over time. Years ago I watched a lot of golf and knew most of the players. Today, I don't think I could name 5 golfers that will be at Augusta. I'm not suggesting that's a good thing or a bad one. It's just an observation. The same is true with baseball. Years ago I could probably name the starting lineup for every National League team on opening day. Now I can't even give you the Pirates lineup. Sadly, I can probably name nearly all of the members of the Board of Trustees that fired Joe. :(

I doubt this is what the OP hand in mind when he started this thread.
I'll pick Sean O'Hair, a very nice young man out of Lubbock, TX. Married a Delco girl he met when she was a student/golfer at Florida Atlantic. Lives in West Chester. Four or five kids. Sean has an interesting back story. Definitely a longshot but he has his moments. Four time winner including the Canadian Open. Soared up the Fedex rankings to get into the Tour Championship and qualify for the Masters.

You could name five: Singh, Spieth, Day, DJ, Couples if he's playing.

I could do the same with all the NL teams, starting lineups, I mean. Let's give it a try. I'll make it a home game for you, the '60 Pirates. Tell me if I'm wrong. I swear I'm not looking.

C- Burgess
1B- Nelson/Stuart platooned
2B- Maz
SS- Groat
3B- Hoak (or was it Gene Freese, damnit?)
LF- Skinner
CF- Virdon
RF- Roberto (or Bob Clemente like my baseball card for him read - no shit)

Starters- Law, Friend (his son is an excellent golfer, Robert Jr., sniffed the tour), I'm thinking, I'm thinking

Reliever- only needed one, Elroy Face (forkball, first time I ever heard of that pitch)
