It's on in Indiana...

Nick Lee has entered at 132! 4 weeks until we get Nick Lee vs. Chad Red!

Nick is wrestling in the Evansville Central sectional. Chad is in Shelbyville sectional. They will not meet until the state finals in Indianapolis.

Nick Lee is 3-0 this season
Chad Red is 168-0 for his career (29-0 this season)
Is Indiana still doing that goofiness with their state tournament that has random draws, win your 1st match and you're a state placer but lose your 1st match (even to eventual champ) and you're eliminated?

The rest of the state isn't giving him much competition. I think he has had only one win by decision with the majority of the victories as a result of falls less than 1 minute.

My understanding is Yes, they are still doing that. My son is a sophomore wrestlers (at 132) so I'm really just learning how Indiana does it. He will not wrestle Chad unless he makes it to semi-state.

At the Evansville Central Sectionals, Nick Lee took 1st place at 132 with a pin at 3:01. In the semis he had a pin at 1:19. In the quarters he had a pin in 22 sec. He had a bye in R1.

Not sure if that indicates that he's fully recovered, of if it indicates that the competition was really poor. Nick was 6-0 heading into the Sectionals. He opponent in the finals, Josh Elpers, was 32-2 on the season heading into the Sectionals.

Nick's younger brother, Joe Lee, seemed to be trying to exceed Nick's exploits. He wrestled 145 in the Evansville Central Sectionals. He also had a bye in R1. In the quarters he had a pin in 31 sec. In the semis he had a pin in 25 sec. In the final, Joe was up 7-2 in the 1st minute of the 1st period (TD, esc, TD, 3 NF). Then in a bit of a shocker, Joe got taken down, and was pinned at the 1:13 mark.

Joe Lee was 21-1 heading into the Sectionals. His opponent in the finals, Austin Bethel, was 34-3 heading into the Sectionals.

BTW, does anyone know if Nick and Joe attended the PSU - Indy dual that took place in Indianapolis?

Joe Lee suffered a first period fall.

Tom,

I didn't see them there. It was snowing and the roads were bad.

Chad Red wrestled a total of 0:31 seconds during his sectional. His pins came at 0:10, 0:12 and 0:10 to a state ranked wrestler.

I can be 100% sure they didn't attend the Penn State/Indiana dual that took place in Indianapolis. If you're talking about the one in Bloomington, however, that may be a different story (and one I can't answer).

From what I understand Joe Lee will advance from the sectional to the regional championships where he could meet Bethel a second time. The top finishers at the regional will advance to the Semi-State championships where they could meet a third time. Then the top finishers at the Semi-State advance to the State championships where they could meet yet again. So if they both continue to advance, Joe should have opportunities to show what he's got.

Nick Lee seems to be heading to a showdown with Chad Red. This won't occur until the State finals. People around here are hyping this to be a clash of the Titans. I don't know the history of Indiana wrestling, but some are saying this is one of the biggest matches in Indiana wrestling history. Evansville is at the extreme southwestern edge of Indiana, so I've never seen the Lees wrestle, but I'm guessing that we'll see some Pennsylvania-style talent on display in Indy this year.

Ok. Thanks...Joe will come back and beat this kid next week !!!! I think he will be the State Champ !!!!

Joe Lee did advance. The top 4 from sectionals moves to Regionals. At Regionals, you have to win the opening match (8 in each bracket) then then top 4 make it to semi-state. At semi-state, you have to win first 2 matches to make it to States.
