10% Happier by Dan Harris and the Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. One of the tenants of 10% Happier is that worrying or the fight flight response is only beneficial until the point where it stops being useful.

I didn't watch most of the game due to a wedding, but tried to follow along via the game thread on this board. The negativity was overwhelming. I understand that the team may have played poorly, but what good does it do to rail incessantly on a message board about every play. I've posted negative comments on the board during games before, and it did feel good to vent and commiserate with fellow PSU fans in agony due to specific plays etc. What benefit, however, is it to whine and complain about every single play and claim that each and every coach must be fired?

I think the whole "unhappy with a close win" thing, is not applicable to this football team in this particular season. It's about finding a way to win. With all honesty, look at what is happening across the nation. With the exception of probably 7 or 8 teams, every single team in the nation is playing close games, more often than not. Georgia Tech just took out FSU, Utah got handled against a 3 loss SC team, etc.

Find a way to win.

I do think a lot of it is just venting. Many of the comments posted are what you would hear if a group of Penn State fans were sitting around watching the game together. On the other hand, I also agree that with some people it's almost every play and it's boring.

It's not "boring", its not even annoying... you'd think this was a message board for people who hated Penn State. Being positive won't change the outcomes, but 500 posts about so and so coach should be fired isn't helping anything either and the negativity may impact recruiting. I want the team to play better, Hack, CJF, Hand, and Donovan wants the team to play better. A bunch of idiots (I'm an idiot too, BTW) posting on a message board isn't the way to get better.

Most people post because they want to be part of something, to feel connected. And many post to look smarter than they really are.
Last year, I set up a poll to see what level of football posters here have played. About 140 people voted int he poll, a very large number. 80%, including myself, never played beyond high school. (50% never even played high school!) If you never played beyond high school, like me, then you have no idea what playing at this level is like.
Another 10% played small collage and the last 10% played major college and//or pro ball. Small collage may give a hint but is still a long way from this level. And even these guys, if they played 20 yrs ago, don't understand current football all that well as the game has evolved tremendously since then.
Its so bad that I quit reading here on game day once the game starts. And the next day, I just skip by 90% of the posts. Not really into feeding the egos of people without a clue.

I haven't been a part of the in-game threads, but is it possible that it's not the same people being negative on every play? i.e. Every board member is negative on 3 random plays, and then when you look at that all together, it appears everyone is negative on every play?

They need to pull McGloin and put Bolden in - PROBLEM SOLVED!

If we lose a game and someone is unhappy to the extent to which it affects their life then they have some serious problems they need to deal with. Sure, I'm disappointed if we lose but I have a life to live which goes way beyond a football game.
