Ivy League Moves to Eliminate Tackling at Football Practices

Pussies. It's tackle football. There must be other measures they could take. How are coaches supposed to teach proper tackling technique, and how to avoid targeting penalties, if they can't tackle in practices? Sheesh.

No offense, but no one teaches proper tackling technique or if they do, the players don't listen or the coaches are really bad instructors. Have you ever watched an NFL game?

If I were a youth or high school coach I would forbid my kids from watching any NFL game.
fwiw Pete Carroll teaches tackling technique, probably a lot different than what you remember. It's a brave new world. My biggest thing would be to emphasize wrapping your arms, if you wrap up, you'll make the tackle plus you probably wont get head to head, or targeting.

Although I think the Big 12 has already done the same to ban it in games as well

It not as crazy as you think. They can still have controlled tackling drills but full contact would be banned. In reality schools do very little full contact in practice as is. College football all time winniest coach with 489 never went full contact. He managed to win 4 national titles. He contributed the practice to the practice because they had fewer injuries and his players were healthier.

Ohio State started using starting the year they won the national championship. They feel it improved them defensively. They also use a unique blocking technique that started at Marshall.

You beat me to it. I was going to say they are just following what the Big 12 already does in their games. ;)

You BOTH beat me to it.....although I was just going to single out my JAYHAWKS, not the whole conference!

Nice! I like it.

do you think the tennis players will be able to use rackets during practice?
And what about boxing out during basketball practice or hard fouls? Is there a way to eliminate this contact?

as one who attends Marshall games, I am curious about the blocking technique that started at Marshall. Jim McNally coached here in the 70's and he did use a zone blocking technique later, I don't know if he used it here at Marshall. No one since McNally, coaching the Oline at Marshall has uniquely developed anything.

I believe their butlers will be doing the tackling. "Jeeves, please tackle the ball carrier and then bring me a Fiji water and Gatorade I'm beginning to perspire."
