Speaking to reporters on a conference call Sunday night - while riding in a car following an in-home recruiting visit - head coach James Franklin updated the search for PSU's next offensive coordinator.
A couple major points:
- Ricky Rahne will handle play-calling and game-planning duties for the TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Georgia, although he currently is not a candidate for the permanent position.
- "In a perfect world," Franklin said, the OC will be hired within a week and a half or two weeks from now to help get the acclimation process started and to evaluate the players and coaches. Franklin stopped short of saying if any formal contact has been made with potential candidates yet, but said the phone has been "ringing off the hook" with suitors who weren't necessarily on his previous shortlist. He said head coaches, current NFL coaches and/or coaches from major college football are being considered.
