Football James Franklin posgame press conference - UMass

Penn State didn't win the turnover battle but did win the explosive plays battle. Won the third down battle, won the starting field position battle.
 
"I thought we played balanced offense again tonight and complimentary football." Called Daequan Hardy the story of the night (which of course), notes how Hardy earned his scholarship after Terry Smith and him saw Hardy play in a state championship in his senior year.

Franklin notes that Hardy got the chance today after Penn State wasn't getting the explosiveness that they liked out of their punt return said it wasn't a knock on Kaden Saunders but just wanted to get Hardy an opportunity.

"This is going to change things for us," Franklin said about Hardy and his abilities on punt returns.

" I think our offense played really good complimentary football. But we're also getting the ball a lot of times with short fields because of the defense," Franklin on his offense through six weeks and tonight against UMass.

"We're playing winning football and that's probably going to look different every week depending on our opponent and the matchup. You need to find ways to win each week."

"It's been an ideal situation. We've been able to get a first time starter, a ton of experience, normal downs, two minute stations, third down situations but able to be balanced and be able to run and grow. So I think it's an ideal situation." - Franklin talking about Drew's performance through six weeks as the NIttany Lions head into the second half of the season.

"The thing that makes me feel god about Drew is he's very humble and his approach is consistent in how he prepares and how he works."

I watched that game and he had two kickoff returns for touchdowns if I recall correctly. He was offered the last scholarship that year shortly thereafter. A number of recruiting “experts” immediately claimed that it was a wasted scholarship because he was only a 2 star.
