Football James Franklin press conference updates

Franklin believes momentum will continue to hold off the Minnesota win and it needs to with Ohio State coming to town on Saturday.

Franklin asked about his famous elite speech and where the program is now compared to then. Believes they’ve made gotten better in some areas but “have work to do” in others.

Also mentioned now having a new president and AD which I think is notable. Penn State will need president, AD, and Franklin all on the same page going forward.

Franklin said that???? Is he F'ing kidding me? Seems like a finger pointing type of response, and what does the NEW President and AD have to do with Penn State not being elite?

President and ADs who are on the same page as a football coach and are willing to give a coach. the resources needed to get a program to where they want it to be is a huge part of success at any major program.

While Franklin is confident in his secondary against Ohio State’s passing attack he notes that the Buckeyes can beat you in multiple other ways.

Franklin was asked about the offensive line and was very complimentary of both Bryce Effner and Vega Ioane. They view Effner as a starter and his snap counts would show he’s basically playing starter reps.

On Ioane, he’s somebody the staff is very high on. Franklin notes they would like to redshirt him but it may not be possible.

Franklin notes with Ohio State, creating a scout team that can replicate a certain or offense can be difficult. This week in terms of CJ Stroud especially.

Franklin was asked about a wishlist per say when it comes to facilities but declined to comment right now. Wants to focus on Ohio State.

Also had no comment on Jim Harbaugh’s comments.

LOL. Did they really expect a response.... "What, he called me the ringleader? Harbaugh is nothing but a complete and utter tool." Although I am sure that is what he is thinking.

Franklin won’t commit to the three linebackers set they ran last week against Minnesota and says it will all be based on the opponent, the scheme, and personnel.
Not that I would expect him to divulge what they’re gonna do vs Ohio State, but apart from the emergence of the TEs, the story of the Minny game was Jacobs’ performance at his old LB spot and having him and Carter on the field simultaneously. This HAS to continue. If not, CJF runs the risk of the “stubbornness” label gaining some traction.

Bingo. Just look at programs like Bama, LSU, etc. There is universal alignment from the board to the admins to the program. PSU doesn't have that, Franklin has to fight for things he wants internally while the Bama and LSU admins hand blank checks over to their programs. Of course these things come at a cost too. Rumors were Russ Rose was frustrated because funding was being shifted more towards football and away from his legendary program. There isn't enough money to feed all of the mouths, PSU is going to have to make some tough decisions about whether they want to try to attain OSU/Bama levels of success or not. Half measures aren't going to get it done and full commitment could come at the expense of other sports.

PSU could bring the house to stop the run vs Minnesota's rookie QB. The problem is Stroud is both a better passer and better runner. Over pursuit could result in some big broken plays for OSU.

Steve Jones said on his show the other day that Stroud doesn't run like the Michigan QB does. I don't know if he is not a good runner or he just chooses not to.

He's elusive and escapes pressure very well. He primarily looks to throw and avoids hits.

On the year, Stroud has 13 carries for negative 9 yards.

Of more concern is his 70% completion rate and 26 TD passes.

He chooses not to. Multiple OSU media sources mentioned that sometimes he has tons of open space to run but refuses to. Good for us as we really struggle to contain the QB.
